hi and welcome to episode number 482 with watts for charred calm in today's episode we're looking at how to make margarine at home margarine hazard a bad rep from the start with some uneducated people even saying that it is one step away from plastic nothing could be further from the truth the name margarine is derived from the naturally occurring chemical my Jarek acid which is found in coconut oil the my Jarek acid is what causes coconut oil to be solid at room temperature it is also bipolar which allows the oil to be emulsified successfully with water today as a results of the high price of coconut oil the coconut oil has been replaced with vegetable oil and this is hydrogenated with the aid of xanthan gum all of these still natural products we are making the original version using coconut oil to start measure up the coconut oil vegetable oil egg yolk milk lemon juice and salt heat the coconut oil in your microwave until melted place the beaker on an ice pack or over a bowl of ice pour in the vegetable oil you can use sunflower oil olive oil or canola use your stick blender to share these together until well emulsified and milky this will take about 60 seconds add the egg yolk milk salt and lemon juice and blend the mixture again transfer the Marder into a bowl and allowed to sit in your refrigerator and there we have it a bowl of homemade margarine if you want your margarine as yellow as the commercial versions you can add a drop of food coloring to the mixture before the second blending cycle thanks for joining us today please subscribe to our Channel and we'll see you again tomorrow
