Please explain how to sew a waistband casing : waistband casings: tips for adjusting patterns

Hi! My name is Shawna on behalf of Expert
Village, and I just have a little tip for you. Sometimes new sewers, or even some of
us old sewers, forget how to adjust patterns. The new sewers usually cut the pattern out,
cut the fabric to the pattern, and don’t adjust to short waistedness, or if you’re
long waisted, anything like that. Sometimes you’ll make a pair of pants or a pair of
shorts and they’ll be too long, and you feel like you wasted a whole project. One
easy thing you can do with the waistband, if it’s too high or the crotch seems really
low, you can actually just take it and fold it over. You can do that a couple of time
if you don’t want to unpick everything. It makes the waistband a little bit thicker,
but when you’re sewing it down, it doesn’t seem to be a problem. I’m going to pin at
the front and the back and each side, and then of course all those pins so that I have
a place to go. I can actually just sew that right back down again. I can pull it, adjust
it, put it through my sewing machine again, and I’ve just taken off two extra inches
of length.
