now we're going to be heating our Bo and we're going to be flattening it so I've got my feeding trough here and all I'm going to be doing is I'm going to be shooting up to the middle point here all the way to the end until it's soft enough for the whole thing will flatten easily now it will be a little trickier because this handle section isn't going to react as much as the red as much as the rest of the plants because of how thick it is but as long as the connection was snug when you pushed it in in the window gaps you'll have no trouble heating all the way through so I've got my flattening board here I've got my flattening Jake you got it set to three-quarter inch down at the end here you can see so let's get started okay so now it's flexible you can be squished with finger pressure then you go ahead place flatten eg go on the center alright so there it is so I've just found that in here you've got a good taper to it so I'm just going to leave it until it's set so they come back take this out I'm gonna do the other side and then we can get started shaping the handle and the recruit okay there we go it's nice and set you can see there's a nice taper on it it's also nice and straight and in line so what we're gonna do is go ahead keep this side do that so I'm going to heat this up clamp it and I'll show you what it looks like when it's all done here's the boat go ahead and tapered both sides so now we're going to do is heat up the handle and basically just squish it so what you're going to want to do is heat from about a half an inch to an inch beyond your outside handle marks heat that up and then we're going to actually squish it I'm going to be using just a towel and hand pressure here we go all right so now that it's nice of you to go they take our towel here you just want to press the handle all right here it is so here's the handle flattened out very sturdy very little flex from side to side hardly any flex from front to back so you just want to make sure that everything is nice and even so now what we're going to do is we're going to start working on the recurve so let's go do that so to make our regroups we're going to be using this six inch cooking pot and it's going to match up with our six inches of reeds because now if you wanted more subtle recurves what you could do is actually extend the length of your recurve slightly and use a larger diameter pot so I would say a combination of marking eight inches here and using say a large cooking pot with about a 10-inch diameter will give you a nice subtle curve a more subtle curve that when strung up will also work a little more this extreme curve is going to keep this portion from working as much it's going to really concentrate the force of this bow right here in this middle of the wind so I'm gonna heat this up basically you just take your heat gun you just want to heat down to your six inch mark no you want to be careful when you're doing this you want to mainly concentrate on the flats but only so much you want to really make sure you're doing this evenly if you heat up to aggressively near the tip what will happen is these little splits will start forming and they can go all the way down and if they go past about half an inch you're really going to want to start over because these are going to blue you're broke now there are ways to get around it if it's not too bad you can actually cut this portion open put a little glue in there and glue it back together so we're gonna heat this up all right so you can see the pipe is just starting to puff up a little bit now that we do is we take the tip and form it over this pot like this now one thing that you want to look for when you're doing this as you can see there's a bit of a concavity right in the middle now from this harsh recurve that's actually going to help the string track and keep the string in the middle of the wing while this bow is being strong so that any you know unstring won't happen secured it here's the tip just want to sight down the bow make sure it's straight there's your first record and now we just got to do that to the other side then we can cut some cut our tips and start working on the finishing touches on this boat so here we go okay now I've got our lead curves so the next step is we're going to actually shape our tips now you could do what you did with the original youth recruit and just cut your knocks out here but if you want to follow along we're going to be making knobs that will fit standard commercial string loops that are about an inch to an inch and a half long so what we're going to be doing is we're going to be cutting the tips and then reinforcing it with flu and I'd like to give a little shout-out to Jacob el who's been doing this on some of his requests here we go
