hey guys welcome to sub-lists today I'm going to show you how to make a crib sheet it's a quick and easy project that will add a unique touch to any nursery now the supplies that you're going to meet our first you're going to need your fabric I used two yards of fabric and I got my fabric from Riley Lake designs they have amazing options and really good quality product so I'll put a link below and you guys can go check them out then you're going to need an 80 inch long piece of quarter inch wide elastic and all of your basic sewing supplies so let's get started so first of all a standard crib is going to be about 42 inches long 28 inches wide and about five to six inches deep so yours varies you don't want to use these measurements but if it's about that size these measurements will work for you so for the crib sheet it's going to be 67 inches long from that point to that point and then I made it 45 inches wide so from down here to the top so I would recommend first cutting your fabric to be 67 inches long and most fabric comes forty-five inches wide so just measure yours if it's a little bit bigger trim that off and then you'll see that in each of my corners I've cut out squares and those are going to be 8 inch by 8 inch squares so I measured in 8 inches and I measured in 8 inches from this side as well and if you just fold your fabric into fourths then you could just cut it all at once and that's what I did so now I'm ready to actually sew now to sew this what we're going to do is we're going to take this corner and I'm going to match it up with this corner and actually sew that scene so here you can see I have that lined up and I'm just going to sew a straight stitch from this point down to this point and I'm going to do that on all four corners and that is going to create the corners of the sheet now after you've sewn all four corners your fabric will start looking like a sheet somewhat like this so now we're ready to create the casein that the elastics going to go in so I'm actually going to surge all the way around mine on this raw edge just to give it a nice clean finish but if you don't have a serger you can just iron a quarter of an inch over and then we'll go from there now once you've cleaned up your edge by either surging it or ironing a quarter of an inch over we're then going to create the actual casing that the elastic is going to go in and you're going to do that by folding it over half of an inch and ironing that down and then we'll go in will top stitch all the way around to keep that permanently in place now if you ironed yours a quarter of an inch so yours will look a little bit more like that you are going to fold it over again half of an inch so it'll look like that whereas mine I just searched so I earned that down and then I'm going to end up top stitching this down right along the edge so that way we'll have enough room to put that quarter inch elastic in now once I'm done ironing like I said before I'm going to go over to my machine and just do a double needle straight stitch to top stitch this down and obviously I'll do the double needle side on this part just so it'll give it a nice look and I am going to leave about a three to four inch gap so that way we can put the elastic through afterwards so once you're done with the top stitching except for this gap that we left open we're now ready to put the elastic through and all I've done is I put a safety pin on the end of my elastic so that way it'll be easier to thread through and you're going to want to make sure you don't pull the other end of your elastic all the way through because that would just be pointless so make sure you hold onto that end as well and I'm just going to thread this to the other side now once you have the elastic pulled all the way through we're next going to overlap the two ends by about an inch and then I'm going to sew a zig-zag stitch over that so that will keep it nice and secure so that when it's stretched it will still stretch with the zig-zag stitch but it won't break so I'm going to do that and I might do it a couple times over it just to make sure it's really secure now once I have those pieces sewn together I can just pull it tight and have the edge of the sheet curl over it so now I'm just going to go and finish my top stitching from this point over here to this point over here and now you are all done with your crib sheet I hope you guys enjoyed this video make sure to give it a thumbs up and make sure to subscribe and I will see you guys next time bye
