the summer is finally here the sun is shining and everybody is happy so i'm going to keep today's art activity sunny and happy can you guess what it is why it's a happy sun mosaic of course so a mosaic is a picture that's built a little bit like a jigsaw by fitting together small pieces of either tiles or paper or glass depending on the age of the child you may like to give them a template from which to work from or with older children they might like to draw their own picture as a base it's a fantastic art activity to introduce to children as it introduces them to many skills which need to be developed such as sorting matching logic building eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills patience and concentration are also needed as this can be quite a long art activity and hopefully it will help them to develop an overall appreciation for art so now are you ready to get happy then let's go make some happy suns okay guys so who can tell me what season are we in there me leah it is summer well done and usually during summer what kind of weather would we be hoping for jamie sunny weather sunny weather exactly but living in ireland it's not always sunny is it no okay well i thought of a way that we can have sunshine in the classroom all year long what do you think yeah okay well what we're gonna do for today's art is make a happy sun mosaic so a mosaic is basically where we get little pieces of paper and we stick them down all around okay just like this you see the way i've done it yeah yeah and eventually we it takes a lot of time but eventually we will have the whole picture finished and complete like this okay so the way i chose to do mine i colored the face and i didn't stick any paper down to that then i did the pointed rays in yellow i did the curvy rays in red and then i did all around the sunshine in blue for the sky so you don't need to copy mine but you can if you like okay so i've cut a lot of little bits for you here and we'll share some over here with jamie we have all the pieces and your print stick okay okay so off you go well done everybody these look fantastic so we're going to stick these up all along the classroom wall and then it's going to be sunny in our classroom all year long yay thank you
