hello I'm Kristen from custom carpentry we specialize in making busy to finish up and today I'm going to show you some carpentry tips now I'm going to show you how to use a wood chisel which is always come in all different shapes and sizes you've got really thin ones a fine detail and you've got wider ones and you can get even wider than that and and everything in between so I'm going to show you how to cut out a piece wood let's say there's a label here you don't want the label or there's just something wrong with that piece and you want to get rid of it and replace it with another piece of wood say so you would need a hammer and your chisel so you'd cut out the air you want to cut out first so we'd mark it out all the way around when you're going along the grain you don't have to bang so hard because you're splitting the wood along the rheine whereas here you're cutting through the grain sideways so you need to bang a lot harder to go down same depth and then you'd start on this end to start getting remove the food and you so you can see there's a an angle here so you get it at that angle and push it along there's a nice big drop there we're going on the other side okay then we need to start to smooth it off I need to check the depth see how even it is and if you grab it with the hands it helps to have more control it's a bit more in this time mention if you hold your hammer sideways and bang like this it makes it easier to tap without having to make sure you hit it exactly in the pins just clean it up all the way around pretty good that's one way to use their which is a list very handy tool for cutting out all source piece of wood that's how to use a wood chisel
