hi I'm Vicki and today I'm gonna show you how I get a really narrow neat edge on fine fabrics like this silk chiffon I'm going to show you how I do it just on my regular sewing machine without any need for special feet or attachments when cutting fine fabrics and doing this kind of edge on them I leave about a one and a half centimeter seam allowance just so fine fabrics like silk chiffon I use these micro tex needles they've got a really fine accurate point so they don't leave big holes in your ship on after you've sewn it I've got my sewing machine set up with my micro tech needle and I've got some red threads that I'm going to say this with so that you can see what I'm doing against the pink of the silk chiffon I don't pin anything when I'm sewing this type of edge onto fine fabric I find that the pins can leave pin marks in the fabric and I find it's just really hard to pin accurately so I hold it as I sew it I'm going to start by stitching up approximately one centimeter of our seam allowance and I'm just going to hold it in place as I do it and you can see that I'm stitching really near the edge the next thing to do is take a pair of sharp scissors and trim away this seam allowance as close as you can to that line of stitching being really careful not to cut through to the right side of the fabric once you've turned away all the excess it's time to then turn it and stitch it again I like to put one pin in just to get it started this is a silk pin so it's really fine and shouldn't mark my fabric and I just use that to get going and get it under the foot and then from there I just turn it and hold it as I stitch and I try and stitch on the original stitching line to keep it really neat so this is how it looks when you finish sewing it you've got two lines of stitching on the wrong side and just one line on the right side so now I'm just going to give it a good press and then I'll show you what it looks like here's how the finished edge looks after it's been pressed so that's the right side and the wrong side thanks for watching I hope you found this video really helpful please subscribe to my channel if you like what I'm doing click the little Bell so you get notified when I upload new videos and I'll be back soon you
