i'm carol will burn the cat therapist here in New York City how to groom a long-haired cat you just adopted a long-haired cat now you've had short-haired cats before and you've had a lot of fun grooming them you used a rubber brush but now you have a long-haired cat and you're wondering how are you going to do this well let me recommend combs there are aluminum combs that you can use to comb your cat's fur you want to do it slowly and you want to talk softly to your cat and tell your cat how pretty she is as you do it and make sure you do this at least once a day if you have to occasionally skip a day try to make it a daily routine or else you're gonna end up with a knotted cat and that is not good and the more you groom your cat the more you do it the more she'll get used to it the more she'll like it I would suggest that you groom your cat while you're sitting on the floor because the more relaxed your body is the more relaxed your cat will be and cats are very very affected by body language and tone of voice so if you're sitting on the floor and you're relaxed she will be relaxed and I want you to remember that if you don't groom your cat daily and I have to say this as strongly as possible your cat may end up with lots of tangles and you'll have to wind up taking your cat to the vet to be shaved and or even a lot of fur gone it may look cute but let's try it let's try to avoid that so do groom your cat everyday as much as possible tell your cat your cat is so pretty as you do it and if it turns out that your cat doesn't like the comb you can always try one of the rubber mitts and just moisten it a bit that's another alternative that you can use but it is important to groom your cat because it's good for your cat circulation and remember when a cat is in doubt a cat grooms
