Please explain how to do a muffler delete

ah that backfire hey guys welcome to another episode today in this video I'm going to show you how to do exactly what I did I installed a muffler delete on the Gulf and it is absolutely ear Gaz m'q it is so nice every single time you let off the throttle it just backfires there's more backfire in this exhaust than me when I go to a Mexican restaurant and order hot food ahh it's so good ahh so I'm recording this part afterwards but what I did is I actually intended to take off the muffler after one of the clamps on the exhaust system and I thought I would just leave it there but when I took that part off and I had to remove one of the exhaust hangers to drop the muffler the pipe that's attached the part that's attached from the exhaust system up to the muffler actually rusted off so when I went to go take it off and move it out of the way think snapped it made it really easy for me because I have all the piping that's all back there and all I need to do now is fab up a piece of metal that goes from the back part of the exhaust system to the back of the bumper just so that the exhaust gases and fumes pass the car I'll catch up with you in a minute but in the meantime I'm going to show you what I did this is going to be one of the cheapest and easiest DIYs that you can do for your exhaust to give it a little bit more noise now for a muffler delete we're going to be removing one of the sound suppression a devices on the exhaust system to make the car louder now you're going to have to check your areas to see if this is legal because in most places you need at least one sound suppressing device and because of this car has a muffler and a resonator up front I legally can remove the muffler and call it a day so I've already got the car jacked up behind me and I'm going to bring you guys under the car to show you what I see alright so right now I'm underneath the golf and I'm at the back facing forward now in the middle of the screen right there that's one of your catalytic converters and you need one of those for emissions if we move back a little bit to that little box right there that's in the exhaust system that is a resonator and that's going to be making our car a little bit quieter when we're driving down the road now if we continue down we can see that it comes down into one pipe right here and then comes up into another box this box kind of thing right here that's called your muffler and this is the last sound suppressing device on the car before the tailpipe right here and we're going to be taking this off to make the car louder so if I'm at the side of the car we saw that the muffler was down there at the back of the vehicle we had a resonator about there and our catalytic converter a little bit farther forward so if I'm coming down here and I come underneath the car you're going to be able to see that we've got a clamp right there and that clamp is holding down the muffler to the rest of the exhaust system now when we take that clamp out the only thing that's going to be holding the exhaust system up pass that little joint so what I'm talking about is this pipe right here the only thing that's gonna be holding it up after you remove that clamp is going to be one exhaust hanger right there so once we take that off the exhaust right here is going to be dangling and it might actually hit a part of the car a little bit forward so we just need to keep that in mind when we're removing it when you're removing the exhaust system and it's got rubber hangers if you want to remove those little pieces of metal that are stuck in the rubber hanger if you grab some wd-40 and spray some in there it'll make it come out a lot easier and you're not going to be swearing for the entire time you're taking it out the reason being is that the lubrication from the wd-40 is going to get in there and it's going to make the steel hanger basically come loose from the rubber hanger so my original plan was to remove the part of the exhaust that's after the clamp and to do that I removed the one bolt on the one side of the clamp and the other one after I did that I moved the little ring out of the way after that was done I tried to hit the exhaust system the back part of it and hit it out of the flange that it's connected to from the from the higher part and the exhaust system and with that being said I wanted to just fab up a pipe make a 90-degree Bend and make it go past the axle and the bumper but it actually became a lot easier after I did this one thing after I used a little bit of wd-40 in the exhaust hanger to remove the muffler from the car I actually found out those another one found a little bit forward that's holding the muffler up so as soon as I remove the second hanger in the back of the back of the muffler I pulled this down a little bit and because the back of it was so rusted it snapped right off look at this so I figured I'd keep pushing up and down on the muffler to make the entire thing snap right off of the pipe and then I go to a shop and get a piece of pipe welded up to the exhaust so it would pass the bumper got it look at the rust all right so now this thing is out because we basically have the muffler deleted not really by us because of rust what I'm going to do is I'm going to put that clamp back on but before I do that I'm going to clean up some of the rust that's on there and call it a day so I used my 8-inch bench grinder with a wire brush attached to one of the wheels and I was able to remove all the rust from the clamp so I can install it back on the car without having to worry about it rusting badly to the point that I can't take it off down the road so I cleaned up the bolts the nuts and the ring and then I reinstalled it back on the car so I wouldn't get an exhaust leak where I removed the clamp so this is where we're at now because we don't have a muffler on the car and it basically just stops right after where the beginning of the muffler was I need to get a pipe fabbed up and welded so the exhaust gases will pass the bumper and not basically cook up my entire underside of the car now you probably could get away with this but uh no it's not something I'd want to do for what it's worth I'll spend the extra twenty thirty bucks or whatever just get a little piece of pipe fabricated up and weld it onto the exhaust I don't need anything fancy yet you need something functional because as it stands the noise on its own is good enough Oh backfire so I've got two options really I can go to my local hardware store pick up a piece of metal and put a clamp on it and hold it and secure it down myself now for what it's worth I can go to an exhaust shop like one of my friends this place I can get a pipe fabricated a hanger made up and everything for probably the same price so which one you think I'd rather do alright so we're back in the car the exhaust is welded up it actually makes a different sound of the exhaust is actually going through the tailpipe all the way to the back of the car but it still sounds good it backfires a lot I want to see if I can find a place that I can rent the crap out of the car to show you guys what it actually sounds like ah ready down a second oh that's dirty now I'm walking like this is probably got to be the most bang for buck modification you can do to your car to make it seem aftermarket as soon as you cut off the muffler it's going to make the car louder you're not going to be affecting your fuel mileage you're not going to be affecting your pattern of engine reliability or anything all that it does is make the car louder now with that being said it cost me like almost nothing it cost me 40 bucks to get the thing welded a new pipe and everything whereas it would have cost me the exact same price if I would do it myself and not have it welded in for 2001 Volkswagen considering all that I did was a muffler delete it sounds pretty damn good like there's no engine mods to this thing at all it's basically bone stock engine transmission like there's no intake no nothing the only thing that there is is that muffler delete I don't know how well the microphone is picking up the exhaust note on here I don't know if it's doing it justice or not but I've really got to strap the camera to the back ready listen to this um it sounds good it's really funny this cars actually gonna be a really good first car for my little brother that wasn't thinking about it a little bit more because it sounds a lot faster than it's actually going like I can go through three gears and still be under the speed limit like first gear doesn't get me that fast neither two second as you getting the third you're like doing the speed limit and you're like ah whatever I'm just cruising ah if you guys have any questions regarding the video throw them down in the comment section below and I'd be happy to help again I stay for watching I'll catch you in there all right bad idea don't do that in the next video I'm going to show you guys how to lower your car like this
