Please explain how to mix lye with no fumes - cold process soap making tip

hi I'm Sarah Jane's from soap school and I was recently lucky enough to go down to Arizona and meet up again with Darrin and Joanna couch from the soap girl and in this episode we thought it would be really great to share with you how you can make master batch lye which is making lye in large batches but without producing the fumes that you normally generate when you mix your lye solution so I hope these tips really help you with your soap making now I'm gonna make sure that both our details and your honor and errands are in the description so don't forget to check out the links hello my name is doing couch I am with the soapy I'm the soap gals guy just wanted to show you all how to make large batch line so here we have 50 pounds of ice to that we're going to be adding 50 pounds of live we're going to be storing and putting into our tank so here we go we're gonna be very careful when you work with this stuff it's it's kind of heavy if you can't hold on to it then just get a anti-static container and just start pulling by bucket pull over the top and I actually do this about half a bag at a time very important to add your lye to your water or ice never the other way around you could cause the flag to pull up and cause a serious issue so for the most important I'm just going to tap that down and the line will start to melt the ice and we use a 100% ice to 100% lie rather than a ice and water because you don't get fused this way Gaddafi nothing missing this way then we're going to turn the mixer on and start Juicin a little secret to this if I remove the bottom from the base I can just set that in there set this on the hook so I can pour the rest of my line in threes always use caution when dealing with lye as you can see I have gloves that go up to my elbows it's important to have a waterproof apron if you can your restaurant supply store you can get that our soap supply store and a face shield because you you may or may not get splashing it's very important to cover yourself as much as possible so I'm going to put this back on the base and I'm going to finish mixing and again there's no fumes here so you don't see me copy [Applause] [Applause] then we're going to pour the lye into our tank you do have a tile floor you may want to cover it at this point because there may be splashing we don't cover art where you mop right afterwards so that it avoids the lye possibly eating through the floor some people ask us why we don't just mix inside the tank this particular tank actually has an element inside the actual tank and we don't want to mess up the element or our mixer so we heat it in it's also elevated our light tank because we actually pour out of that shot right there and add to our niche so it would have to be a little bit more elevator than normal it is also very important if you have employees that you have postings around your lie we get that at lab safety or your local safety supply store [Applause] there are just a few light granules at the bottom we don't worry about that because each time we make soap after each day we'll mix inside the tank and it's that simple 100 pounds of my solution thank you very much
