[MUSIC PLAYING] -Hey, this is Matt Steffanina. They here today with
"Dance Tutorials Live." We're at IDA Hollywood. And I'm going to teach you guys
how to do a basic arm wave. We're going to start by breaking
down each move step by step. So we're going to
bring our left arm up. And we're just going to start
by lifting our fingertips up. Now, right from
the beginning, you want to notice that I
have a straight line here. This line has to stay the
whole way through my wave. So we want to make
sure that we're only moving one joint at a time. So for instance, when
I come to my wrist, my fingertips have to come
back into this straight line. Now, from here, my wrist is
going to come back in line. And then I'm going
to bring my elbow up. This is probably
the hardest one. And something that
might help you is to think of rotating your
arm forward when you do this. So not just lifting your elbow,
but lifting and rotating. You also want to make sure that
your shoulder is pressed down here and not squeezed
up to your ear. For the next step, we're going
to straighten our arm out. And now you're going to lift
that shoulder up to your ear. We're going to take it
over to the right side. You're just going to pass the
wave through your shoulders. Now, for now, I'm going
to relax this arm. But ordinarily, we
would want to keep it up there the whole time. You're going to come
up to your elbow. Make sure you drop
that shoulder. Then we're going to
lift to our wrist, and then to our
fingertips, and release. So now that you have the basic
positions of an arm wave, we're going to put
our arms back out. And we're going
to smooth it out. So same technique, just instead
of stopping at each one, I'm going to keep my
wave continuous and nice and slow coming back
from the other side. To the wrist, elbow, shoulder,
shoulder, elbow, wrist, release. When you're
practicing your wave, you can vary how big or
small you do the wave. So it's good to practice
big waves when you're really trying to get through
each position. But it's also good to
take it back just see if you can make a really
clean, small wave. This way, when you
start to freestyle, you have more options than
just one basic arm wave. Now that you have it slow,
it's time to speed it up. The only thing that's
going to change here is that we're going to make
the wave a little bit smaller and more controlled. So starting from the left
side, we go six, seven, eight. This is one, two, back, three,
four, five, six, seven eight. Again. One, two, three, four,
five, six, seven, eight. For more advanced waving
