in today's project we're going to be looking at double glazing windows or secondary glazing double glazing works by trapping a layer of still air between two panes of glass or in this case a layer of glass and a layer of plastic still air is a great insulator because windows by their nature are the worst insulators now sure you can get your house double glazed and get all the windows replaced but for a really simple DIY job which is what we're about you can't go past this stuff it's basically plastic film looks a bit like cellophane and you stick it to the frames of your windows and seals in some still air which is going to insulate them I got its that okay so you'll need window cleaning gear white spirit or methylated spirits will do the plastic window covering which is called clear comfort double-sided sticky tape which comes with the clean comfort key tape measure scissors extension cord and the ubiquitous hairdryer that's it now make sure you've got a nice squeaky clean we don't that you can see out of get rid of any dead flies unless you like and look because basically it's going to be a museum piece inside there now the next thing is you want to give all the window frames a good polish with white spirit or methylated spirits this just removes any gunk or grime and then wipe off the residue of the white spirit with just a clean wet off while you're waiting for it to dry measure out the window and cut out in plastic film after have this one out and fit I've made sure that it's about 10 centimeters bigger around all the sides now you can get sticking what we go do double-sided sticky tape now it's colored side up sticky sides of the window make sure it goes to the very edge of the windows and then stick the film of the stick so right or wrong silence both the same but it does when you drop when you drive with the hairdryer all those completely talking you don't need to get it absolutely perfect as long as it is all on the tape now this next week is really important basically you want to bond the ste tape into the plastic you can do that with the back of thumbnail or back of the spoon and just press really hard every single area where the sticky tape hits the plastic it's boring it's laborious it's essential I've so many of these all done now for the funby do not get carried away with the hairdryer basically the hairdryer dries the plastic taut so it's a bit like a trampoline and if you overdrive the plastic or peel away from the tape basically you've got a shabby useless bit of plastic on your window if it's looking a bit rippled raw recalled anywhere just give the it's time and you can hardly even see it's there now we've just got to trim off the debris around the outside you see it probably not that's why it's so good genuine GOI double glazing that paired with a good set of curtains heavy heavy curtains you've got a really well insulated window for a fraction of the cost so get into it if you can't put the clear comfort on the inside of your window you can still put it on the outside in a slightly higher risk of damage high-speed birds checking themselves out in the loop in the mirror or just flying debris um but generally you're going to be okay you
