okay we are back with the same trunk that I am actually doing a video on stripping furniture this is the same trunk and I just you know I got to thinking that really while I'm working on it it would probably be a good idea just to film a quick waxing tutorial again we already have one on the blog but really still the majority of questions I receive obviously especially about chalk paint are on how acts and lots of trouble on getting it to just achieve I would say the maximum of durability that seems to be the biggest issue so a couple of quick tips that I've learned even since the first full-length it's a long video the first one I did this brush of any wax brush you know it's got a flat surface it's meant to help you press the paint press your wax into the paint so you know you need to view it this is what Patti my stockist I'm from best furniture paint calm that's what she told me she said you know you need to look at your brush as simply a tool to get the wax on your piece you know you're not really supposed to continue just to brush it on you are going to brush it on you're wiping it on and then wiping it off so if you're not doing that and you're just putting a ton of wax on your piece you will get too much on it at a time and then it will not harden the way that it should secondly I will say that I think there have been some posts that have been written that are I think very informative and very honest as far as troubleshooting because let's be honest any time we're doing something creative like painting furniture or creating art you know that there are mistakes that come along the way and there you know lessons we all learn but I don't think it's fair to say that the wax is not a durable surface you know I've heard a lot of people say well you know I'm not gonna wax my kitchen table because that's not durable furniture wax is just as durable as you know polyurethane or you know any any kind of like I love fair thing that's a floor sealant it's just as as durable it's a different finish it's gonna create a different look excuse me and you know we have to apply it the right way so if we're not putting it on the right way it's certainly not going to hold up the best way possible so I just thought we would do another quick demo really kind of focusing on how you know we're gonna get it on our our piece we're gonna wipe it in to press it into the paint and then you're gonna wipe it off now if you do that and you do a couple of coats I was telling patty the other day my coffee table which is this sucker right here it is beaten up on every day these coffee table books are pulled off this tray is dragged across the top you know I have two kids five and two and they are a nightmare on this piece of furniture same thing with our bar stools but this stuff is hard I mean my kids will spill something on it I won't know for hours I'm sure and you know just wipe it off with a damp cloth so it is one of the most durable surfaces in my home so as long as we apply it the right way and we give it time to fully cure which is about 21 days you want to be really delicate with it until 21 days then you're gonna love the finish that you get so um this is kind of one of my old cans of wax because my friend Layla at the letter cottage has one of my other so we're gonna hope that this one works well for us I'm gonna just start in the middle so you can kind of see first of all notice how much that it richens the color of the paint I really hope you can see that that far away we're gonna press it in again I'm not just putting it on you know I'm not just wiping it on I'm pressing it down and I'm spreading it okay so and sometimes I'll just grab the brush you know buy the very very base that seems to help me so as I brush it on and I'm really I mean I'm you're not sort of worried I'm really pressing it in and then I'm just use a smooth cloth another thing that's great to use is um maybe some drop cloth scraps that's great and that's what really what I love to use for buffing so see and now that done that I mean I'm wiping off although it's almost dry mail but see if I don't wipe it off it's just it's gonna have kind of a buildup and it's gonna be you know thick so we're gonna keep applying it we're gonna keep putting it on wiping it off putting it on wiping it off again you know that was a time that I just put on so I mean I'm gonna I'm gonna spread it back all over it you see how much it covers you know if you just keep keep working it in that's why you really need a wax brush if you're having trouble with furniture wax whether it's a nice lungs brand or another kind and you don't have a wax brush you're probably you know you're creating work for yourself because it really really helps you maximize your application so see how much richer the paint color is already and you say afar I mean that when I'm almost done with the first side so you know I'll get a little bit more finish you don't have to be particular and once you get it all on you know again you're just gonna gonna press it down into the paint wipe it wipe it off and then you're gonna want to wait I know we're all impatient but you're gonna want to wait about I can you know sometimes I will go five or six hours if I watch it and well it'll be dry but you know really you shouldn't wait maybe a day and then distress it let your paint cure and then you can distress it again okay the furniture I'm the the chalk paint you know is meant for furniture and so it's really really durable really fast but to me it's still painted furniture we're you know it's not a bullet prevents too like you have to give it time to do its job just whether we were using latex or oil-based paint or you know you gotta wait and let it cure some so that is that my friends and we will come back and I'll just kind of show you try to kind of get some close-ups and show you how it's dried and then I'll show you kind of how I buff because you can get a seriously shiny finish with furniture wax a lot of people don't know that they assume that you can only use kind of a hand rubbed finish our coffee table super shiny so our our bar stools so you know it just depends on so you know it just depends on the way you apply so I hope this is helping see you in a second
