the near seems to be getting thinner all the time and that means it doesn't take much to sand through the veneer when you're flushing a face frame or on a hardwood edge for a shelf like this at this point you've got two options toss the shelf or cabinet and start over or fix the problem I'll show you a nifty technique to cure those sand through blues the first step is to remove the sand through cut a shallow channel using a straightedge and a router cut the channel just a little wider than the sand through and along the entire length of the board cut a strip of wood for a snug fit in the channel glue and clamp the strip in place use a call to help spread clamping pressure evenly along the repair strip after the glue is dried use a 120 grit sandpaper with a sanding block to flush up the repair well there you have it from disaster to perfection file this little trick away it's a technique you hope you never have to use but you'll be glad to have it if the need arises
