Please explain how to infuse vodka

hi i'm john wagner for pa wine and spirits and today we're in northeast philly at philadelphia distilling and we're going to introduce you to vodka infusions now we're going to feature pen 1681 vodka from philly distilling i've got a fresh peach sliced up in the jar and we're going to top that off with a bottle of vodka so we'll top fresh peach off you want to make sure that you use a glass jar that has a lid that you can seal we want the infusion to stay as airtight as possible so while pouring the bottle of vodka in on the peaches know that you should shake this for about about twice a day for two weeks that'll really get in and allow the fruit and the vodka to really soak in together so you'll seal it up and give it a good shake and then find a cool dark area to put it in just to make sure that it stays out of the sunlight okay so i've already prepared an infusion from two weeks ago we've got peaches again so you can see obviously there are two different colors this one is the fresh peaches that we just did and this is the one from two weeks ago the vodka has gone into these peaches and has really pulled the color out so if it's pulling the color out it's also pulling the juice and the flavor so we'll open this one and we're going to filter the bottle right back into the original bottle that we pulled the vodka out of so i have a sieve and a funnel put the funnel in the bottle and we'll use the sieve and pour it right back in with this one it's all right to just use the sieve because there's not a lot of sediment with other fruits and vegetables that you may want to use i recommend using a sieve and a coffee filter or a cheesecloth so i've introduced you to our first vodka infusion using fresh peaches i've got five additional ones here in front of me i've got pear basil raspberry hot pepper or three pepper and blueberry some cocktails that you can make with each of these the pear would go great with a lemon-lime soda the basil or the three pepper or hot pepper would go great into a bloody mary or into a spaghetti sauce over pasta so you have that food element in there as well the raspberry and blueberry would go great with a lemonade very refreshing on a hot summer's day as you can see the possibilities for infusing vodka are endless please let us know how you plan to infuse your own vodkas using locally grown fruits and vegetables and as always please enjoy responsibly thank you
