hi I'm Michael Michael hi I'm with the Business Exchange we're here at the International Franchise Association annual convention in beautiful Las Vegas i'm here with Chad Finkelstein Chad thank you for joining us after having me no not a problem chad is a lawyer with Dale and Lessman and my question to you Chad is how does one select an appropriate lawyer when purchasing a franchise how do you know what is good or what's the difference well you want to make sure that you're selecting somebody who specializes in the area there's lots of commercial business lawyers that are out there and they're easy enough to find but the people who live and breathe the franchise industry day in and day out are the ones who are going to the best understanding of the law the best understanding of how to protect your rights and interest as a franchisee and also the best sense of what reasonable industry standards are within the franchise community for how a franchisor should or should not be behaving so you wouldn't want to choose your cousin who's a real estate lawyer ya gotta stay away from that guy a great way to find people who specialize in franchise law you can certainly do your own online searching I wouldn't rely your I wouldn't I wouldn't rely entirely on google but they're certainly our resources and databases that they keep lists of people who specialize in the area if you see that you know the same names keep coming up in terms of who's delivered presentations are written articles those are people who might be experts in the community and ugly you can also speak to the business exchange to get a list of lawyers who specialize in the area that's right yeah
