hi I'm Susan Elias and this is another edition of fashion unfolded today we're going to actually show how to sew the three-way shawl vest that I showed you how to cut earlier stay tuned I wanted to show you the steps that we took to sew the three-way shawl vest the first step was to sew the neckline which is up here and we did that with five threads meaning one line is for the scene and the other ones were to marrow the edges after that we top stitched it twice on the outside the second thing we did was so the second scene which is a little bit further down as well and then that is also then top stitched on the outside if you can see that after that we sew down the side seams with five threads again meaning it had the marrow and the straight stitch I hope you can probably see that here so then you'll see that there's a straight stitch and then there's the marrow we didn't top stitch on the outside because it wasn't necessary after that we marrow DeRose which is right here and then we top stitched it on the other side so that is also consistent in the inside as well as the outside we want to do the minimal amount of work inside and out so I wanted to look very clean the last thing we did is put the binding all the way around the edges of this three-way shawl vest so it's bound on the inside as well as the outside all the way around the vest so that's the weight so and you can see the steps coming up right now I also want to show you how it's worn again remember that we have this is the short version more coverage of the frontier with that vest leg appearance in the back still as well with a lot of fullness here around the neck to keep you warm the first one was the longer version which is much longer with a little bit less coverage around the neckline still with the vest like effect and the third way taking it as a shawl scarf putting it around the neck putting once one of those hats through one of the arm holes and using it like a scarf so there it is stay tuned for the steps as I show you with my seamstress how it's done hello this is hung and she's my seamstress and she's going to show you how to sew this 3-way vest today okay he's matching up the notches and sewing both layers together with five friends meaning the straight stitch as well as the Amero stitch these all-in-one as you can see in industrial sewing there's no pins involved they just hold each piece with their hands as they go along now after mero in it we have to top stitch to fold down the seam allowance in certain areas and that's what she's doing right now hey now at this point we're going to be marrying the armholes and we only need three threats for this because we're not actually putting a scene together and so that's it's a curved scene and this machine will cut so it'll be very careful that it doesn't cut the wrong sewing down the side seams with five threads because it needs to have the straight stitch that's actually the scene and then the marrow after that now she's working on the armhole and she's turning back a quarter of an inch and sewing the armhole turning back the Merrill edge on the inside and the reason why we're not using the facing in this situation is because the facing would be too bulky and would show too much once you change the the shawl vest into another shape whether it's going to be the short vest or the long vest too much of this would show so we're trying to do the minimal amount of work so that it looks pretty consistent from the inside and the outside this is a curved seam so it's a little tricky and she's holding it down with her fingers and she knows what a quarter of an inch looks like and she's actually spit the top stitching a quarter of an inch now we're getting ready to do the binding and we had to change everything on the machine the feed dog the plate that's down here the actual foot that's down here everything has to change to accommodate this piece that's going to do the binding here we go because it has more of a turnover on the wrong side perfection can you need to put the piping on corners they have to be double done so making sure that that is exactly where it needs to be the last part is to sew down the ends one is laughing over the other one and you have to just make a little square which is going back and forth with the stitch there we go all done thank you for watching this episode of fashion unfolded remember my channel is Susan Elias couture and thank you again hung my great seamstress who put that together and show everyone how it is done thank you
