Please explain how to do satin stitch tutorial | needlepoint stitches video tutorial

this is a nice easy stitch for needlepoint and it fills in the canvas quite quickly as well found a good reason to pick this stitch this is what it looks like here quite a blocky stitch because we're going to work a larger stitch now in a straight row I've worked in three different color so you can see the stitch but you don't have to make it a strike this you can still mix your colors as you would normally so there's my knot on the top my threads going to travel underneath as usual so we stitching over that thread on the back and we can cut the knot off when we get to it so we're going to do a long diagonal stitch now and it's going to go over three holes and two threads I always count the hole and so I can actually put my needle in and count so I can go one two three and the first hole that your thread comes with in the last hole count as one of the three it's not one two three then take your needle down to one two three needle down in the third one we're going diagonally across these intersections now don't come off at an angle down here going across that intersection across that intersection that's two thread one two three holes I'm going to go one two three the needle goes down in that hole shared by the previous row remember always take your needle down into the hole that's got a thread in if you can just to finish the top of that there's a little shorter stitch there that will just finish that off just jump back and put that one in otherwise we're going to work straight down vertically down coming underneath the previous stitch each time and these are all over three holes now go one two three holes to thread and we're going round and round the canvas and coming down here I'm coming underneath here and back up here to these stitches going around around the canvas it covers the canvas well for a good stitch to use if you wanted to make something that's going to take a little bit of wear and tear so it does use quite a lot of thread this stitch going around around fit is the same on the back it is on the front stitches are slightly bigger now so just watch attention is nice and even don't point to titled holes while I open up so just pull that down just so it starts to take up the tension all the way to the bottom and then when you get to the bottom if you just want to finish that off the block or this is the edge of your stitching don't forget just to put that little short one and at the end just to finish it off and you can weave that thread underneath on the back to finish it I'll just show you is why you can change directions in this stitch you've got to come down here come across here I'm going to put my lot out of the way you have to go one two three now you can go the other way to go one two three that shares the hole put the little two hole stitching at the top okay one two three one two three time to three holes now what to go across this way so that would be one two three as well so if you want to can put that one in that helps sometimes counting you don't have to stick to the rules necessary count to the way that helps you to see the stitch so if you want to go ahead and put one in so you can see where you are so this one now if I want to fill in that corner is going to be a longer stitch want to keep the direction of this satin stitch going so I'm going to keep that going right to the corner so this is now over four holes not three to go one two three four still going diagonally across those intersections not change in direction this is over three one two three and the next one will be over - you start to see this corner form now there's the corner now we can go back this way go one two three so I've just changed direction I come up at the top and now I'm going down into that row that's where the needle goes through the hole with the shared stitch in it pushing that thread through to the back you can see that angle now where I've changed direction so you can keep doing that and change all sorts of different directions and make lots of different patterns so just make sure you count that corner carefully so if I wanted to come back up now I can start to work vertically I'm not coming down here as you can see that not coming down here I'm going up vertically now so it's still over three holes to come back up now you can make your square so we can make little step patterns keep changing your direction but keep the width of the satin stitch the same the only time it will differ visit the corners get back to the top and more and then I'm going to finish that there so just to finish it off my little short stitch over the two holes nice shape there so that's the simple second stitch
