Please explain how to dye speckled yarn- resist method

my name is Kendra and today I'm going to show you a quick and fairly easy dye technique that is resist dyeing now one way you can do resist dyeing is by taking your skein of yarn and twisting it in different ways and then crease the resist in that the parts that are tightly twisted don't have as much dye on them and so it creates white or blank spots now I've really had a lot of fun doing this a couple different times using either a bits of yarn or zip ties to tie off certain sections and to me it almost looks like like a reverse speckle here's an example of a yarn dyed dyed with the dark speckle so I did the pink and then I speckled the black on top then for this other color I dyed the pink first and then tied off certain sections and over dyed with the black so you can see the amount that you tie off really varies the amount of speckling you end up with in here it's not all speckled some are sectioned and twisting does the same thing hmm I made a fun colorway before Christmas where I dyed self-striping in sections and then and tied off a bunch of pieces and dyed it all black and I thought it seemed like kind of Christmas lights at night sort of look alright let's jump into the dyeing so I'm going to begin with this ball here it is self striping and so I am going to make it into a hank again using my swift I'm going to tie it up like I would any other hank with my figure eight ties all the way around so it does not get tangled next I'm going to cut some short lengths of yarn and these are the ties I'm going to use all the way around at different spots to create the resist so I'm going to you can either use just a small section here I'm going to start by doing another tie all the way across the yarn and tying it very tightly and this just means that the the die won't be getting underneath that tie and so it'll create a bright spot tie it tight and then grab your next section here is just a portion of this gained not the whole thing we're just going to repeat that all the way around doing different ties and you can experiment with how you want to tie it how tight you want to tie it I've also tried using zip ties for this but it I do find them too hard to cut off so I do like to use the yarn but yeah it's just totally up to you how much white or how much bright color you want to keep in your skin and remember that the rest is going to get over dyed so it will be changing it's kind of hard to picture but I like to use more than I think I might like this is what I have ended up with all the way around you can see my ties and it is ready for the dye pot now I'm going to go ahead and soak my yarn and water and once it's soaked for about an hour I'm going to start to heat it up and get it up to just below a boil and this is the color I'll be using to over die I'm going to mix it in and bring it up to temperature until the dye is exhausted and let it cool off naturally so that's really all there is to it you want to let it dry and you can see the results once it's dry and you trim off all those pieces now for this color I only died it kind of a plum over dye because I didn't want to lose all the different variations however you can still kind of see the way that the resists dyeing works and just brings a lot of depth to what you're dying this is my final skein I'll show you there's some parts where there's just little bright speckly bits right bright amounts and it's just fun to experiment with seeing how you want to tie it off this area has a lot more of the bright color in it and you can tell that my dark it's not black I could have died of black and it really had those bits pop and like I said I've tried that before and it's a lot of fun but it's also nice to see kind of that depth in color when I've to untwisted here you can see the areas some of these you can tell okay that was all over the whole section versus just tying off a small portion and it'll create lots of different variation and when you're knitting it as well alright so I hope that this little peek into how I resist dye yarn has been helpful to you if you have any suggestions on how you've tried this and other materials maybe you use their other techniques please leave them down below I know me and others would really like to hear what has worked for you in this but otherwise that's all for me to do thanks so much for watching bye
