alright so today I'm going to show you
how to grow the mimosa pudica or sensitive
plant from seed. Um,some people call it the
tickle me plant. That may be a trademark um but the general name is the sensitive plant or mimosa pudica. So basically I just bought some seeds online, and in
order to get these to germinate it's always best to either soak the seeds in water. I had these seeds
sitting in water for the last 12 hours or so You can soak them for 12 to 24 hours. I
drained the water so it is easier to pull these seeds out for this video. The other option is you can take the seeds from
the packet and actually scarify them. Take the seed and just rub it on the sandpaper. You want to just put a little
etching into the seed coating. The third option you could take a
knife or tweezers or some nail
clippers and actually put a little bit of a nick right
in the seed coating itself. but I elected to just but these in water. And again with the water, you can actually start with
warmer water not boiling of course. You don't want to kill the seed
but warm water and let it cool. They seem to germinate even
better that way. Then we're just going to take our seeds and spread these
around on the soil and this is just a a good garden soil or
on potting soil spread these becuse we're
gonna thin these after they begin to grow. Then you just want to take some the dirt and you want to put about an eighth of an inch layer
on top. Then I would thoroughly water this. And you do need to keep this very moist for the first
couple weeks or so One option you have - you could take a gallon size ziplock bag or depending on the size of your
pot something different and just put that
right over the top here. That's essentially a humidity dome so that you don't allow the soil to dry out
and the seedlings die before they get a chance
to really take root. So within a little bit of time you're going
to have some sensitive plants or mimosa pudics and again those are the plants where you
just touch thethey and close up. I'll post a follow-up video once they get going
here All right. Good luck guys.
