dendrobium orchids especially the nobly types are usually spiked um like this the canes are attached to a steak like this because the canes tend to grow a lot and they tend to go all over the place and it's really okay if you just want to let it cascade it's really nice but if you have a crowded environment or you're just afraid you're gonna damage it um it's a good idea to stake it up and to do so we're not gonna use the plastic clips the butterflies we're just gonna use something like this again i don't know where you can find this i just got them from the orchids i had now this these clips are designed to hold a thicker pseudo bulb so i'm just going to try to pin this new sort of bulb that i have and it's kind of leaning to the side and i don't really want it because i have a rather small balcony and i'm rather afraid i'm gonna break it so let's see how to do this as i told you i do like to place the spikes as close to the sides as possible and that's what i'll try to do here and what i do i don't know if i can show you what i do is i pinch the pot and i take a look here on the side and see if i have any roots visible of course i'm not going to be able to see all the way down but maybe i will not have to put the spike all the way down if i would have seen roots at the sides of the pot i would just try to go in a different direction but right now placing it right here would really help me for this cane oh it's sticky okay so let's see if i can do this let me take a better look here because i want to know what i'm doing and i don't seem to see too many roots i think i can avoid them so that's what i'm gonna do i'm just gonna place it here now when you're placing steaks in the pot try to rotate them quite a bit this will make it easier for them to go down and it will get any bark out of the way okay so this is enough for me i'm pretty sure i didn't damage any roots because i really didn't see any roots there and now i'm just gonna get this little baby out of the way maybe i can stake this guy up too and i'll place this ring on the pseudo bulb and then just place it on the stake there you go now we have a steak top dendrobium of course when you have more suitables like i have this little one here you can stake it on the same spike on the same stake actually because you don't really want to have like a pot full of steaks but again if you do prefer to let it cascade you can try it just be careful not to bump into it or damage it when when this guy will bloom actually we'll make the blooms from directly from the canes so i really don't have to stake any spike up so that's how i stake aid androbium nobody
