I would go on another guy's wine was try can today we are checking out the this is a Schlage residential grade hardware now what's happened is is on this particular lock the thumb turn on the inside these little wings have spread and therefore they don't grab this anymore okay so here's the fix for this you can actually fix this 90% of the time I would just take this thing and throw it in the garbage everything else is worn out at it most likely so why are we trying to save it however in this case I don't have an extra one to replace it the store is out and I can't get one anytime soon and we can't replace it with anything except for exactly this lever because of an HL wave situation so in this case I have to fix this or order a new lock one of the two so basically we've torn everything apart to get this cap off basically it's just pressed on here one two three four spots where it's pressed we just use a screwdriver flat blade screwdriver pry that off and grab some needlenose pliers the plastic came out and then the thumb turn came out as well I would like to put a little drop a superglue or something on there to hold that but I don't know if that's going to work I'm afraid if we try and glue anything in there ah something bad might happen and it might try and glue itself to the edge which would be super bad when we go to put this all together so what I'm going to do is I'm going to use my little punch here and I'm gonna punch this thing first of all we bend the little wings back down okay these and the plastic down actually that's exactly what I'm going to do don't get lighter and Bend this stuff back down hold on that is exactly what we're going to mount that sucker in there meldy at the top end you know what and go you can see what I'm trying to do here is that's now mashing it down into that yeah huh come on wind we can be joined by a giant loud truck I see what I got going on here is these little wings split and came off but I don't want to use a glue on there because when we shove it all back in here it can glue itself to the outside of that handle so I just use a lighter melted a little bit and kind of stuff it in there and kind of overlap it you could do this well I think that'll solve our problem you have a canned air somewhere [Laughter] all righty yep let's work out real real nice to shave off some of that deformity [Applause] alright see ya click click boom there we go move that quite nicely now alright we're gonna have to press this back on which we may need right so I'm just going to shave these tabs down so that piece will go back onto it and then we can then re hammer it out we work in the handle part too we may need to bring that cylinder out here we may need to bring that cylinder out here for this 17 things it works okay get my knee involved come on this is why we normally wouldn't mess with this under normal circumstances champagne so go get em boys filled out with the Nova nope yeah you can do that apparently the key with you also she needed her original key is when I need her original keys did you did those work in there yes okay they they work real good oh well then we don't need to do anything okay you don't need it to work huh nope we'll put it all back together all right so now I'm going to file out the inside of those little hoopty dues we got more time in labor trying to fix this thing than it's worth but if you must immerse haha yeah now you can see what I'm trying to do here that piece right back down on there because we don't want to set this down and then hammer on the piece that we just fixed you're going to break it again instantly so we need to put the force somewhere else like you need to put it on the edge don't just set this down flat you're going to instantly break that okay so I'm going to set that down so even pressure on both sides I'm actually going to take this out to where I have more room on the outside there and I can actually put this and mount this up in the vise and then I'm going to tap these back down put that groove back in there so this stays actually probably user spring-loaded pokey be off get started but yeah and then this will be solved then this holds this it's turning the actual inside piece yet again and it will turn the tailpiece and now this is solved royal pain in the butt to do possible usually not worth your time much cheaper to
