Hello this is Paul Louis from Puppets n’
Stuff puppets. You can find us on the worldwide web at www.puppetsnstuff.com. We are back
with our puppeteer techniques. I am going to show you the proper way to open and close
the puppet’s mouth. Also, I am going to show you the wrong way to open and close the
puppet’s mouth. A lot of people have a misconception that when you operate a moving mouth puppet,
the head flips back like that. Now that is not really the proper way to do this. So my
hand inside the puppet’s head is doing this at the moment. What you want to do is, you
want to try to keep your four fingers on top in one position, and basically only open and
close your thumb. That way it is a more natural open and closed movement for the puppet, because
we assume is when we speak our bottom jaw opens and closes. We do not speak like this.
So we want to keep it pretty natural, and for the puppet as well, and that is the way
to do it. Now, it is pretty tricky, and it is going to take time to learn that. You are
not going to learn it overnight, but with practice you will be able to do it. Okay,
we will be right back.
