Please explain how to sew a one piece mesh bathing suit

hey fabulous diyers on this week's episode of redesign your clothes we are going to be making this mesh bathing suit from scratch requested from nika gamble if you guys are interested in seeing how to make this swimsuit let's begin one yard of mesh fabric mesh comes in all kinds of different uh textures i have the open net one and one yard of the swimwear fabric then you're to need a bathing suit of your choice that you like the way it fits one quarter of an inch elastic scissors a ruler pencil and a hip curve my hip curl ruler is broken as you can see but if you go to your fabric store you can tell them about the ruler and they'll give you the bigger version of it and this is good for armholes necklines and anything that's curvy when you're creating a pattern and last but not least patterned paper if you can't find padded paper you can use brown paper or any large paper so you want to draw a line across your pattern paper and then fold it along the line like so then you want to take your swimsuit and fold it in half and put it towards the edge we're going to copy the front of the swimsuit so you're going to tuck in the back underneath nice and neatly and then trace the front of the bathing suit now i'm i stopped at my armhole because my bingsu was made differently it doesn't really have an armhole it has like a strap so i'm going to be creating my own armhole since i had a lower leg line i had to bring it up about four inches so i used my hip curve to help me with that and i created my armhole with my hip curve as well as you can see so if you have a swimsuit that has a armhole to it you can keep going and pass this but if you don't you can follow and you can see how it can be done then you want to go back and put your seam allowance on the edge you can perfect any lines that are wrong or missing and um adjust them if you like and then add your half an inch seam allowance i went here and adjusted my side i wanted it to be a more higher cut so i went ahead and went up an inch on the side seam but you can choose not to do this if you don't want to so again you want to apply a half an inch all around the armhole size seam and by the leg opening and then you're going to put a quarter of an inch around the neckline once you're complete you want to cut that out it will look like this when the pattern is complete this is the time where you can use this pattern to make any frontal design if you want to but right now we're not going to be doing that today so we're going to take the pattern paper now the front portion place it onto the folded paper as you did we're going to be doing the back version of this so we're going to be folding the bathing suit back in half once again and now we're going to be tracing the back side of the bathing suit and with the help of the front of the pattern paper we're going to draw in the side seam and the armhole and neckline here i came down about seven and a half inches from my back neck drop and added a quarter of an inch at the edge as well once it's complete again you're gonna cut it out like i'm doing right now and then you see when you open it is basically your basic swimsuit pattern so for this tutorial we're going to be using one side of the pattern so we're going to cut it in half so since we're cutting in half you're going to have one set for you to be using for basic um swimsuits patterns it could be your basics you can do whatever you want with that whenever you want to create more bass suits but this time we're going to be using the other side um here i'm going to be drawing in my design um here you can choose to do whatever you want i decided to come down and do a kind of curvy type waist um mesh insert so i kind of curved up on the bust line and kind of curved it down for the bottom part because they wanted to look like a bikini on front once you do that you want to draw your lines out then you want to cut it out and then you want to put a piece of paper underneath each pattern as you see me right now to place your seam allowance you need to give them seam allowance so that when you stitch them together you have enough room to stitch them together so that way it won't be shorter and it'll be the length of your body so you want to go ahead and add those seam allowances to each seam once you cut out and it will look like this into three pieces put that off to the side and now it's time to do the back i wanted a low back so i wanted to bring it down about 16 inches added a quarter of an inch again at the edge for seam allowance now it's time to cut on the fabric so i folded the fabric on the fold and now apply the pattern to the edge pin them down and cut it out you want to do the same thing for the back as well the only piece that we're not cutting out on the swimsuit fabric will be the center part that i'm going to be using for my waist and that will be cut out and mesh you should have about six pieces two for the front and two of the um the bottom portion only in the front not necessarily you don't need it for the back so here i went ahead and pinned my mesh fabric and upper bodice fabric the swimsuit together to stitch them together with a zigzag stitch a half an inch and then now i'm going to repeat the process for the bottom and basically i'm going to be putting the mesh fabric in between the bikini bottom portion of the swimsuit and stitching it down with a zigzag stitch about half an inch it should look like this once again after that when everything is done it will look like the whole front of your swimsuit now that you're complete you want to add the back portion of the swimsuit to the front you want to connect the side seam and the shoulders together and then i went back and connected my crotch and i overlapped the front portion over to the back and connected the back to the other side of the front portion it makes any sense that way it can be all cleaned on inside stitch everything down with a zigzag stitch and then went ahead and cleaned up my edges with a serger machine now if you don't have this you can use a zigzag stitch for the finishings now after that you want to take your quarter of an inch elastic and you want to go ahead and apply that on the edge of all your edgings armhole neckline and leg openings fold the elastic onto the fabric and then you're going to zig zag stitch it all the way around it will look like this once it's complete the back if you want to go ahead and make it more interesting you can put straps i chose to do a little strap detail on the back but you can skip this process if you don't want to it's six inches long by one inch wide and i did four straps to create some back interest and you want to fold them in half into a quarter and then top stitch a zig zag stitch on them it should look like this and then now you can place it onto the back however you want now as you can see my design i kind of loop the the straps into each other you can choose again once again you can choose whatever you want to do and you want to go ahead and stitch them down with a stage a straight stay stitch and then once you're complete it will look like this and then you're ready to wear if you're heading out you can use your bathing suit as a bodysuit and pair it with a pair of boyfriend jeans i paired mines with my diy pearl boyfriend jeans that i did and as always guys if you have an item in your closet that you wish to redesign let me know what the item is and i will select a commenter for the next video see you guys later bye guys
