welcome to my garage today I want to talk about injectors as you probably know injectors are a very important component of your car because they make sure you get the right amount of fuel at the right time however after 5 10 15 or maybe 20 or 30 years of service you can be absolutely sure that the spray pattern and amount of fuel deliver as well as a consistency of fuel delivery from injector to injector has been compromised this of course affects your engine and engine performance and multitude of negative ways however you can you can improve that when fix any of these problems yourself by buying and installing and injector service or injector rebuild kit they are widely available and you can find it for almost all types of conjectures and they're also expensive and it pretty easy to install as well so here you can see my injector rebuild kit it consists of 4 pintle caps for lower grommets for upper rail spacers for all rings and for micro filters this particular kit is for my injectors that came of 1987 toyota mr2 with a 1.6 16-valve engine these are you can say these are old-school injectors because they have pintle caps newer types usually don't have pintle caps however these injectors are very durable as most conventional type injectors are so if somebody tells you that you need to replace them be sure that you need replace them because often these things can any problems away to them can be fixed by doing doing a installing rebuild kit such as this one or maybe having them professionally cleaned they very rarely fail unlike some very types of injectors that you can find for example indirect objection gasoline or common rail injection diesel engines okay the first thing I'll be replacing are these o-rings and the upper rail spacers now these are very easy to remove all you have to do is pinch the o-ring on one side and then just roll it over there you go the rail spacer is even easier to remove you just gotta basically take it off and that's it you will now take a new wall ring and the new rail spacer first install the rail spacer because otherwise it won't fit over the o-ring as you can see the rail spacer is the same on both sides so it doesn't matter which way you put it up or down we'll push the rail spacer on new ones are much more flexible they also aren't brittle so they take a bit more of an effort to to push on okay here's the new o-ring installation is again simple just roll it over okay that's the easy part the next part is removing that Pinto gap okay depending on the injector and the and the condition of your Pinto cap you can sometimes remove your Pinto camps with hand just by pulling them off since my injectors are almost 30 year old 30 years old you can see the Pinto cap is completely discovered and it's also so old that you can actually remove it with just a bit of strength there you go now when replacing Pinto caps the part that you really have to be careful about is this little needle now you do not want to damage this part because if you damage the needle you will need to replace the injector okay we'll now take a new pintle cap and as you will soon find out it will not go all the way down because it's a new Pinto cap and hasn't been basically worn out of shape like the over what you will need to do with this one is heat it up just a bit and then push it over okay okay I'm going to go ahead and use my use my heat gun to just heat up the Pinto cap a bit so I can push it on to injector onto the injector you can probably do this with a with a hairdryer or something we could run a heat gun but this is a bit faster and it's going to get the job done so just going to get a bit noisy so okay here we go because this thing this thing gets a bit hot I use the old Pinto cap to push on the hump inter-campus out of my fingers but there you go as you can see the needle protrude just aside a bits side oh it's slight bit so be careful when you do this okay the the our grommet is also very easy to install as you noticed my injectors didn't didn't have these they were actually so brittle and all the day basically disintegrated these are the new ones the narrower end goes on the bottom and the wider end goes towards the the wider end of the injector so just pop it on and there you go looks better already that's part it needs to be replaced and the injector is is this little bit which is inside it's the micro filter as you can see getting at it with your fingers is almost impossible but I'm going to show you how to do that in just a second to replace the micro filter you will need to find a screw that fits just right and screws right into the micro filter and put it in a vise now when replacing the micro filter be sure not to get any foreign matter inside the injector so get a new set of gloves or make sure your hands are 100% clean so I'm going to go ahead and screw the filter onto the screw that's it you don't need to go too deep and then I'm just going to I got and there you go it's off and you can see it's empty you'll now get a new micro filter put it in and give it give it just a very light tap with a hammer there you go one brand new micro filter is it and there you go that's pretty much it the o-rings the spacers two grommets the pintle caps and the micro filters thanks for watching make sure you get it right amount of fuel with the right time but after but after a while 510 or in my case in the 30 years of service the injectors have simply holes there
