and welcome to polka dot pots I'm Aaron Rassi Opie the effect of going from light to dark colors is called ombre thanks Tim Gunn I'm Ray's really popular these days and you've probably seen projects on Pinterest everything from clothes to hair furniture and cakes with an ombre effect so today I'm going to show you how to paint pottery with an ombre effect plus later I'll tell you how you can win this very mug let's get started the first thing I'm going to do is put the stickers on the mug a tip is to lightly place part of the sticker on the item so you can make small adjustments to get the letters just right I need to move this ' just a little bit and that looks pretty good so I'll just press down and all the stickers and I'll be ready to paint the effect of going from light to dark colors is called ombre I'm using light and dark purple on this mug but you could use any color you like I'm using a natural sponge to apply the paint a key to getting a smooth transition between the purples is to alternate the application of colors so apply a coat of light purple then apply a coat of darker purple above it and overlap the two colors make sure to dab the paint on and not brush it on and notice that I'm painting right over the stickers now go back to the light purple and apply another coat to blend the Purple's where they overlap I'll continue to do this with all four shades of purple now that the paint is dry to the touch I'm ready to remove the stickers using a toothpick apply pressure to the edge of a sticker once part of the sticker separates from the item grab it and peel it off if any paint gets underneath the sticker just scrape it off with the toothpick I'm done and the piece is ready to be glazed and fired and here's the finished product check out how using this sponge to blend the colors makes a smooth transition from light to dark guys this is really easy don't be intimidated by the ombre look you can definitely make it work alright now it's time to give away this mug to enter all you have to do is leave a comment in the section below answering the question of the day the question of the day is what color will you use for an ombre effect on pottery on my next project I think I'm gonna rock pink until next time I'm Erin Recio be happy painting
