Please explain how to draw a demon wing

and welcome to this tutorial video in this video i'm going to be drawing a demon or a dragon wing um it's kind of like a fantasy concept and i feel like it can be applied to dragons or demons and that kind of thing for this tutorial i used a mechanical pencil with hp leds on smooth bristol board paper and i also used a blending stick and a small eraser don't worry too much about the equipment you're using as long as you have a pencil and paper i recommend maybe an hp or a 2b pencil i started off by working on the outlines and to begin with it's all about placing the bones the main structure of the wing is initially angled upwards and then when it reaches the top point it angles outwards and slightly downwards at the top corner of the wing i added a spike to add to that demonic theme and then after that it was time to add the inner sections of bone to create the shape of the wing at this point i wasn't worrying too much about guessing the exact shape of the bones it was all about just getting the right direction of the lines and figuring out the placement and the the initial shape of the wing to go along with the demonic theme i decided to add some spikes to the end of every bone and this is another great way of adding some extra details to the drawing and then finally it was time to add the wing segments to this drawing and i tried to make it look like it was skin stretched between the bones once all of those outlines and details were drawn it was time to move on to the shading i wanted to start off by adding shading to the outer edges of this drawing just getting a feel for how i wanted to shade the bones so i started off with the very tip of the wing with the spike on the end i started off by adding some darker shading to the underside and then i used the blending stick to help smoothen that shading and i made sure to leave a highlight along the top to help give that 3d effect and contrast with the dark shading underneath i followed this same process along the bone and then i decided to add a joint to this section of the wing and i feel like this is a really great way of adding that that skeleton that bone kind of feel it's something that i felt was missing when i added the outline so it was nice to add some joints to the sections of the wing and really make it seem like it's a skeleton i spent a bit of extra time adding the details and the shading to the main section of bone i wanted to give it that demonic and kind of gruesome feel so i added some ripples in the bone added some extra bridges and used the contrast between the shading and the highlights to help distinguish the shape making sure to add the shading to the undersides of some parts of the bone and then using the small eraser to add some highlighting along the top edges it was really fun drawing a concept like this where i had to decide on where i wanted to put the shading and the highlights i um i decided that i want wanted to think of the light source to be coming from above um or just in front and above and so it gave the effect of having the darker shading underneath and um really showing up some of the ridges on the bones once i'd added the shading to all the bones going around the outside of this drawing i decided to start adding the details to the inner part of the wing so i made sure to use the same shading process that i used for the bones previously and then i made sure to add the joint at the middle section and then it was time to add the shading to the skin in between the bones for this i added some darker shading towards the inner part and then added some medium shading going outwards i then used the blending stick over the top of that i made sure to leave an area blank so that i could add a rip in the skin and show the kind of damage and tears that you expect on a wing like this i also made sure to add some tears at the end of the wing and give that kind of worn and damaged effect i wanted to give the effect of the skin being stretched between the bones in this drawing so i decided to add some lines of shading going inwards from the outer corners of each section of skin and then use the blending stick over the top of that once that was done i then used a small eraser to add a line of highlighting above that section that i just used the blending stick on and this in effect gave a kind of creased and rippled effect in the skin and that's just what i was going for um i also used the eraser to add some highlighting above some of the rips and the tears that i added to the wing using shading and highlights to add to the effect of the damage and wear on this drawing really helps to add to the realism and the depth and i really recommend trying it out because it's really fun once i followed the same process for all of the sections of the wing it was time to add some extra details to the skin i decided to add some veins so it's just about adding some random lines going in all directions and kind of fading them out towards the end of the wing i didn't overdo them as i didn't want them to take away from the details i'd already added but i think it's a nice touch to add to the realism and make it look more demonic and scary and i think this wing could end up being suitable for either a demon or a dragon in the end please let me know what you think i really hope you enjoyed watching this video and i really hope it helps out in some way if you work on anything similar then feel free to show me your work on twitter or facebook or instagram and i really look forward to seeing what you do if you want
