Please explain how to entertain a baby (6 months +) emily norris

- Hi guys, welcome back to my channel. Today's video is going to
be how to entertain a baby. Lots of you have been
asking me about this, what kind of activities
we play, what toys we use, and I actually did a video on
this subject three years ago with my son Caleb, and it is
my hightest ever viewed video, and it's a really awful video. It's one of my first ever
ones but it's really really embarrassing to watch. I'll link down below so you can see it. I thought it was about time we updated, and there's a few new things
that I do with Jackson, and I'm also so excited because this video is a collab with my friend Hayley Paige. She vlogs and blogs. I will put her links down below. She's got an amazing YouTube channel. She used to do lifestyle,
beauty, and fashion videos, but she recently became a mum. She has a little girl named Annabelle who is three months old
and so so cute and chubby, and so Hayley is going to do a video on how she entertains her
three-month-old old baby, and I'm gonna do a
video on how I entertain Jackson at six months plus. So definitely go and check out her video if you have younger babies,
or if you just want to follow another mommy vlogger who
is really really good. I love her channel, and what
I think I love most about her is she's really really
honest about motherhood and her experiences, and her husband Doug pops up on her channel all the time, and they have a really sweet relationship. She's really really natural
in front of the camera, and her makeup is always flawless. And if you're new to my
channel, my name's Emily, I post three videos a week on
beauty, lifestyle, parenting, and I would love for you to
subscribe and stick around, but anyway enough from me,
let's get into the video. This is how I entertain little Jackson. Right, so tummy time is one way that I entertain him quite a lot. I will normally prop him
up on this nursing pillow, or on a pillow, and just put
different toys in front of him. He really loves to play with cups. I got these ones from IKEA. And he loves this rainmaker which makes some really nice sounds, and he also loves these eggs as well. Actually all of my boys have loved playing with these toy
eggs that you can see. But yeah he'll literally
just lay on his tummy and look at different
things for quite a while. This next one I actually saw on Pinterest, so I thought I would
try it out for myself. All you need to do is
get some pipe cleaners and a strainer, and then literally thread some of the pipe cleaners
through the strainer and then let your baby
sit, and I think the idea is for them to pull all
of the pipe cleaners out. Jackson thought this one was pretty cool. He kind of pulled out a few, and then he put them in his mouth. He really really liked the pipe cleaners. This next one is a great
one to just pull out if you're stuck in on a rainy day. I like to pull this one out sometimes, and it works for multiple different ages. All you do is get some pots and pans out, and some kitchen utensils. Jackson really liked the
whisk, and just let them bash and bang on the pots
and pans, make some noise, play with lids, and it's just
a different kind of experience than just playing with
toys like they usually do. He likes the whisk the best, don't you? And now that Jackson is six months old, he's getting really
good at listening to me reading him books. He really likes these
black and white baby books. He also like books that
have texture on them, so something for him to
just touch and that's a bit more interesting. And he also likes books that
have sound buttons on them, so that he can listen to
them and try and have a go at pressing the buttons himself. (swishing and rattling) (pig squealing) (honking) (doorbell ringing) Next up is bubbles. I think children of all
ages just love bubbles. Here is his older brother
blowing them for him, and as you can see he
is just watching them float around the garden and he's really really intrigued by them. The next way to entertain
your baby is a DIY. This is sensory bottles. All you need to make these is
to buy some bottles of water, obviously drink the contents,
and then dry them out, and then take the labels
off, and then fill them with different things. For ours we have some pom-poms
we got from the pound shop, pasta, rice cause they
make really nice noises, and then some glittery letters, confetti and things like that that we also got from the pound shop. We've also got some food
coloring, 'cause we're gonna have some some that have
liquid, and some that are dry, and again, my eldest is
going to help me make these. He actually loved doing this. In this one I'm just gonna
put colorful pom-poms, pasta, confetti, and these make
a really nice shaking noise. But you can literally
put anything you want into these sensory bottles. You could put flowers,
you could put paint, you could just do anything,
and Jackson really really loves playing with these. - I made the one Jackson's playing with. - [Emily] Yeah, you loved it, didn't you. - It has colorful eyes,
balloons, and pom-poms in it. And I put red food coloring,
purple food coloring, and blue coloring in it. - [Emily] Well he loves it
so much, don't you Jackson? - Shake it, yeah! There you go. Yay! - [Emily] Another way
that I entertain Jackson is to make treasure
baskets, and I've done this for all of the boys. They're so simple. All you need is a basket or
a bowl, whatever you have, and then some items from around your house that are baby friendly. So I'm putting in a new
scrubby brush, a lid, some ribbon, measuring
thing, a lid from my candle, a pom-pom and a brand-new
feather duster as well. And then all you have to do, oh I'm also gonna put
in some crisp packets because he loves anything crinkly, and then yeah you just literally
go through the contents of the treasure basket with him. You could literally put anything
in your treasure basket. You could do things that are
from nature, like pine cones, or you can do things like
what I've put in here. He loved this pom-pom from
the pound shop as well. But yeah you just sort of
go through it and explore. I thought it was also worth me mentioning some of Jackson's favorite toys. He loves his Jumperoo. I think he really likes to
have some time just bouncing and not being held, and
then he loves it so much we've also got him a second
activity center like this. This one doesn't jump around, but he can sort of move around, and now that he is getting
bigger, he also loves swings, so we can go to the park now, this was obviously in a soft play. If I take him to the park
he can sit in a swing, and he really really loves it. The next one may seem a
bit strange, but I think that exploring foods with your baby is a really good activity. Now that Jackson's weaning,
and we're doing lots of baby-led weaning, he loves
trying out new textures, trying out new foods. And every meal is like an experience. Water play is also a great
way to entertain your baby. Jackson's always loved the bath. If you didn't want them to
get wet, I found this toy, you just fill it up with water and then they can play with it,
they can look at it, there's things that
float around inside it, and I was thinking you could
probably even make this on our own with a Ziploc
bag, put some water in it and some little confetti or something, but he really really likes this toy. I was unsure whether I should
include balloons in this video but he really really likes them. Obviously you need to
use common sense though, with a baby, don't let them
bite them 'cause they will pop, but he likes to bop them
around and hug them, and just push them around. He also really likes when
I hold him up like this, like he's flying, and
sometimes I like to put him on my knees like this, and
rock my knees back and forth. I call it the Superman,
I don't really know if there's an actual name for it or not, but he smiles and he loves it. Just watch out for the dribble. Mirror time is also a great one. I don't really think he
knows that it's himself, he probably think it's
another little baby, but he will happily look at this mirror that came with his play mat, or look in the mirror with me as well. He really really loves that. Peek-a-boo, or peepo as you say in the UK, is another one of his favorite activities. He loves to be surprised, and he loves to be a little bit scared, and peepo is one that we play a lot. And if he's ever restless,
getting out for a walk or having a change of
scenery by taking him outside is a great way to entertain him. He especially loves it now that he's in the
sat-up part of his buggy. And the final way Jackson
gets entertainment is through his siblings. He's so lucky, being the third baby means he has lots of entertainment from them. Anyway, that's it for this video, I hope you liked it,
and I'll see you soon.
