in this video i'm going to show you how to seam two pieces of knitted garter stitch together i have here peyton's delish knit up and for the video i'm using peyton's classic wool as my seaming yarn i'm using just um contrasting yarn so i can show you easier in the video however when you're seaming your project together you'll want to use the same yarn that you used for your project a good tip is when you're casting on or casting off if you know you're going to have to seam this piece later on leave a long enough tail to use for your seaming later and then you have less ends to weave in so my yarn is joined at the bottom right corner of my left piece and i have the right sides facing up so what i'm going to do is for each ridge there are bumps along the bottom and bumps along the top and that makes the garter stitch ridge for seaming purposes i'm going to be working into these top bumps of each ridge so first i join the pieces by bringing my yarn up through my second piece and my first garter stitch ridge bring my needle up through the last stitch of the row the top bump and then on my right hand side piece the same thing so the last bump on my right hand side the next ridge next row of garter stitch needle up through the last bump and then up through last bump on the right side the corresponding row so you're just going to continue that up matching the rows bringing your needle from the bottom to the top of each garter stitch bump and you don't have to pull tight on your yarn keep it loose for a little while after you have stitched up an inch or two you can tighten your yarn by pulling gently like this don't want to pull too tight or it'll cinch your knitting up if you pull tight you can just kind of pull it down and you see your ridges are still matched your row looks pretty continuous okay now when you're at the top of your piece you bring your needle up through the top edge of your left piece and the top edge of your right piece make sure the seam looks good you're happy with it and to finish off and put your needle through the left side and just make a knot like that and there you go and of course weave in your ends on the wrong side weaving in your ends on garter stitch is so easy you just pull your yarn loop your needle through some bumps pull your yarn through and voila
