welcome to Kramden nursery we're taking a lot of cuttings at this time of year so I thought I'd take this opportunity to show you how you can take cuttings at home we're going to be looking at the zonal pelargoniums afternoon of taking cuttings and what I'm going to do is I'll show you the growth points and then I'll show you to hang how to take that cutting so if we look a bit closer here with the growth points let's have a look and see how many we've got on this plant we've got one two three and four so we've got an opportunity to take four cuttings and what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you where to take the cut and then how to trim the cutting back so the first thing you're going to need are some sharp secretaries or perhaps a knife we use a knife here on the nursery and what you need to do is you to Nate take your cutting just above a growth point and this is a growth point here okay nice clean sharp cut so let's have a closer look at our cutting here we have a bird that's going to have to be removed here's the main growth point where the plants going to grow from we've got another growth point here which would have been a side shoot the plant would have pushed out and then we've got these small normative light leads that are actually called stick field and these cover and secure the growth points okay so now we need to trim or cutting down slightly to make it a little bit smaller first thing we need to do is take off the excess leaves all you do is just gently clip back toward you and it comes off quite cleanly we also need to take that bird out so we don't want it flying just yet so again just put your finger behind it and just pull it toward you it comes off nice and cleanly we need to take this growth point out we don't want to go there to just pull it off with your fingers and then these snip tools that I showed you earlier they also need to come off so you just gently pull them off with your fingertips looking at it we've got three three leaves in total two small leaves and one slightly larger leaf because these leaves are quite small I'm going to leave those on to help the plant get through the period when it hasn't got any roots it's a little bit long with the stem at the moment so I'm going to cut that down and make it a bit shorter on the nursery we use a knife or you can use a knife sharp pair reciprocated and we're going to cut it just below the growth point okay so here we go nice sharp clean cut so you've still got the grade point there but we've got a shorter stem and there each one faster cutting you
