Please explain how to make a dream catcher

well the dreamcatcher is certainly something that you'll see if you ever travel through the southwest they are very sacred to Native American people and when they're made with the authentic materials they are quite special what I'm going to show you here is really a tribute to the beauty and the message of the dreamcatcher using very simple steps and very simple craft items that you probably already own I think these look beautiful hanging in a room they can be a sweet gift for someone that you know in a child's room or even just to hang in your own bedroom and I think it's a nice project to maybe do with your kids to look online or do some research about the history and why the dreamcatcher is so special to the Native American people to get started with our version of a dreamcatcher we're going to use just a simple embroidery hoop and you can find these at any craft store they're lightweight but they're strong and durable and they're just the right size they come in different sizes this one here is about seven inches and I think that's just a good start especially if you're doing this with your kids and it's easier for their little hands you'll need some type of yarn to cover the dreamcatcher itself and then a finer flossing thread that's perfect for actually doing the web on the interior using a large spool like this could be difficult to keep weaving through so really a nice rule of thumb especially for a dreamcatcher of this size try to measure off anywhere between like nine and fifteen feet of this yarn of this string and that will make it easier for you to work as you are creating the texture of the dreamcatcher itself we have some wire and some little cutting wire cutters as well we'll be using feathers on this dreamcatcher towards the end so here's how you're going to get started you're going to take your yarn and you're gonna start to wrap it around your hoop and you'll do that simply by tying it off give yourself a little bit of length there at the end because you'll be using that to help you hang this and then essentially you're just wrapping it through until you get the dreamcatcher covered this is something easy that you can do when your catch up on your favorite TV show or just sitting around relaxing once you have your yarn wrapped all the way around your hoop now we start the web portion of this dreamcatcher so you're gonna take your yarn put it over and pull it through okay now you've got your loop you're going to come over take your yarn and you're bringing it under and pulling it through the loop make sure you go along you're pulling them tight moving it around over under through the loop pull it back up all right now that you have your first round of your web started on your dream catcher now is when you're gonna go through the second time you're going to go underneath that first loop with all of your yarn and then see how that creates another little opening here so with that you're gonna take your yarn and go back through there always make sure when you pull this you're centering it in this next loop and you can see the look of our web is starting to form so really it's just remembering under then over so under first under the existing loop creating this new loop and then going back over through it always centering as you go once you get the hang of this it's really quite simple scoot that over so after you've gone through multiple times to create the look that you'd like in your dream catcher you're gonna be left with a little string like this you want to have some of that length because from there we're going to attach a feather the real magic of course and the idea of a dream catcher is that it's something that you put near your bed your bad dreams are caught at night and then legend says that the good dreams will come to you down through the feather so we're going to put a feather at the end of our dream catcher I also just love the look of that and I think they tie together beautifully so I've already taken a little bit of my left over thread and wrapped it around the base of this feather it'll just make it a little bit easier for you when you decide where you're going to hang it here so with that excess I'm gonna place it here just kind of wrap it a little bit so I know that's about where it's going to hang and then I'm going to take some wire and use that really to wrap it and finish it up the wire can be but we'll hang it into place take your wire thread here wrap that a couple of times with the thread and then take the wire and wrap that as well I think I'm just going to trim that little bit off so it doesn't keep getting in my way take your wire wrap it around this is again we're sort of I think a rustic look is just fine so you tuck in all of your wires and that's how simple and easy it can be to make your own dreamcatcher love the look of the single feather dangling down but if you want to add more you can always do that too for more projects go to QVC comm and search why HJ
