hey everybody it's Cristina Jackson your natural food chef and holistic health coach we're making healthy chips today and I'm talking we have turnips here and we're doing a baked spicy turnip chip and turnips I know that sound might that might sound a little weird but trust me they're going to be delicious what you'll need is about one large turnip or maybe a few small turnips I have a quarter teaspoon of chili powder garlic powder and onion powder a about two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and just some pink Himalayan sea salt to taste what I've done here I've already prepped my turnips they're gonna be a nice sweet fresh flavor and it's a great alternative because they're high in vitamin C and fiber and they're not going to elevate your blood sugar as a typical potato would you like a russet potato but I've taken my mandolin I've shaven these really thin as you can see it's going to create a nice crisp chip the thinner you go the crisper the chips going to be so keep that in mind you can do it with a knife but try and keep them as uniform as possible is when you spread them out we want them to all cook evenly once you have that done throw them in a bowl and then take another small bowl and combine all of your different spices into that and then we're gonna mix those all happily together before we put them on top of the turnips I'm just gonna take some salt like that get a nice little mix all happy in there and then add your olive oil okay so mix it up a little bit first massage it coat coat all the pieces the olive oil and then go ahead and add in your spices just like that similar doesn't take much time at all and if you love chips this is going to be a healthy version for you to enjoy them you can make them in large batches you can even make a huge batch and use it at a party no chips and dip make some fresh dip as well but I guarantee your guests will love these as a nice little alternative to regular potato chips okay so once you've gotten your hands dirty and mix it all up let's put them on the tray we have a tray that we've already prepped we've sprayed it with some extra virgin olive oil you can go ahead and lay some aluminum foil down or use a nonstick baking sheet we just put this on here this is what we're going to use today and we're going to lay these out in a thin layer so they cook evenly you might need a couple sheets depending on the size of your baking sheet and then once we have this we're going to pop them in our oven I have it preheated at 300 degrees check them after 10 minutes to see if they're starting to brown they're starting to brown on the edges and there's still a little tender in the middle great flip them over and let them go another 10 minutes but keep your eye on them check them every once in a while some ovens are different so give them a look here in there all right so as you can see I have leftovers here I have my tray that's full the ovens preheated at 300 degrees I'm going to pop them in there and let them go about 10 minutes after 10 minutes I'm going to check back on them to see how they're doing if they're browning on the edges that's exactly what you want to see you want them to be a little tender in the middle but brown on the edges once you see that give them a nice flip and let them go another 10 minutes but try and keep your eye on them because we don't want them in the burn we want it enjoy these once they're done so I'm going to pop these in flip them after 10 and see you in 20 and we're back we left these sweet little morsels in there for about 10 minutes went and checked on them and gave them some more time so I'd say total time maybe about 20 minutes but as you can see they have a nice golden color they're crisp they're gorgeous look how beautiful those are I actually like them when they turn a little Brown because it adds like a little rustic flavor to it little hint of that so this is a perfect time let them cool you can add a little more flavor if you like here if you want to add more salt is the perfect time to do so but these turnips which are packed with all these nutrients are going to be so beneficial for you put them in a big container airtight container make them for a whole bunch of people bring them to your next party whatever you choose to do these are great and they're gonna be great for you give them a try that is how to make your baked turnip chip enjoy thanks for watching if you have any questions for us or if you like to see some other videos email me at requests at Mahalo com be sure to catch our other videos don't forget to subscribe so you catch all of our other healthy delicious videos we'll be putting out
