Please explain how to cook quinoa in the instant pot

Sam let's get okay so the first thing I want to do that I like to do with my quinoa is get it you get a good and clean I cannot stand eating quinoa and that has like an earthy flavor to it and one of the tricks that my aunt Cindy shared with me years ago is to measure up quinoa and just give it a good five-minute soak in either it doesn't have to be hot water I usually just use warm water and you see here I'm using a little fork to get all those quinoa that are floating on top into the water so you just kind of whisk that water around with those quinoa is around until all the quinoa sinks to the bottom and then once they've all you know I've done that then I just leave the bowl alone for about five minutes and it's surprising how monkey that water gets after a five-minute soak and I and I promise you there is a considerable difference between rinsing your quinoa under water and letting it soak for five minutes and I can I can tell when I when I'm eating white quinoa that if I don't do it this way I can still taste the grit it's you know so anyways this is this is the way I roll you know me I got to I parts and that's captain and Tennille I want you to meet captain and Tennille and then to Neil I'm gonna use the mason jar technique and and I'm gonna use the trivet now I don't know why I do this I think this is just all my years of canning doing water bass and stuff making jams and jellies I just I just instinctively put a trivet in the pot and I put the mason jar on the trivet okay I'm probably gonna do that till I'm dirt and then in the captain he's gonna get the bowl and I'm just gonna put water in the bottom of the insta pot there and set the ball down and in the inner pot we'll just take it like that okay so uh what are we doing all right so I'm gonna drain off that mucky water and this first batch will go into the bowl you know and I felt like well if I just did this in the mason jar and somebody didn't have a mason jar they'd ask me can I do it in a bowl and I thought yeah well sure and then I thought well if somebody saw me do it in a bowl they'd say can I do it in a mason jar yeah sure so this is why I'm doing it both ways sounds like I'm just trying to head off all those future questions okay so and then I've added 3/4 of a cup of water for 1/2 a cup of quinoa and then I use my spatula just to make sure that there wasn't any quinoa sticking to the sides of my bowl all right now here's the sexy fun part trying to get quinoa into a mason jar that's not so easy you might you're gonna make a mess right there just like I did there you go they don't show that in the fancy cooking channels do they they don't ever show the best yeah there you go and wet quinoa oh yay like boogers gets all over the place is sticky is hard to get off everything to miss wet quinoa is a mess okay that's me just you know being me just try not to waste my quinoa quinoa it's not cheap it's not a cheap grain I'm getting it all in there get it all right and then there's 3/4 of a cup of water for the mason jar again half a cup of quinoa 3/4 cup water just getting the quinoa in there get in there you're those drums going all right let's get captain into kneel setup for action okay captain's get in the bowl okay so in the bottom I forgot the book so we need to add water to create the pressure that we need to get things going and so I'm adding I'm only gonna pressure cook this quinoa for one minute so all I need about 1 cup of water at the bottom of this pot okay one cup of water bottom of the pot all right so Neil's gonna get the mason jar captain gets the bowl all right I saw some straight quinoa is there in there trying to get away there's another one get it all in there Jill don't miss any oh there's there's the OCD kicking in I'm just kidding I don't have OCD all right here we go come on let it go Jill come put the lids on you can do it all right so we're gonna put the lids on first check the seal always check your seal or else you're gonna say there's steam escaping from my iPod why do I do check your seal before you put on your lid and then make sure that you're Steve release handle is fitted seated properly on its little rod make sure they're turned to ceiling and then we're gonna use the manual button to turn on the high pressure which it does automatically and we're gonna use the minus key to take our cooking time down to one minute dunt-da-daaaaa look at this dual election if you don't have two iPods I bet you're jealous right now aren't you you like oh it's pretty cool I'm gonna tell you I wouldn't say that cooking quinoa in the in a pressure cooker or in the iPod is any faster than cooking it on the stovetop I'm just right up front with you I don't think that that's the advantage here I think I was trying to figure out why when anybody you know want to cook it in an iPod when they can't you know if if they could cook it on the stovetop and then I started thinking about my friends who like to RV yeah like they go RV camping and all that stuff and they're on the go and they like to carry their iPods to the hotels and things like that when they're traveling you want you'd want to know how to cook quinoa if you're do you know you were in that situation so I said okay let's just do it for that so um oh I forgot to mention hold on we'll stop right here whoa stop Oh No okay I was getting a little chatty I'm sorry all right so look back to the cooking all right so we had one minute of pressure cooking and then what I wanted to do after that as soon as the cooking time is over you need to to cancel that keep warm you need to stop the cooking process all together and you just want the quinoa to sit in the heat for 10 minutes that's it okay so 10 minutes is perfect a perfect amount of time to let the pressure go down in the iPods themselves you can after the 10 minutes so it's cooked for one minute and then you turned off the keep warm mode and then you get over there and you release the pressure that's left in the pot and then you'll see that the rods drop down and then we can take off the lid okay and I bet to get real close on this came off so you can see that the quinoa completely absorbs all the water and in their containers and it's perfectly cooked look at that all the water is gone nice fluffy quinoa look at that it's a little steamy cuz it's hot inside that I thought I was getting real close with my camera here getting very precarious I thought I had to watch the lens so you can see better look look at that party quinoa huh perfect oh yeah we're ready for some quinoa salad baby you can make some quinoa salad today hey or just eat this straight up whatever floats your boat all right here's the bowl dun-dun-duh luffy quinoa there you go you're set to go you just need a little quinoa little water and you can rock it man lady woman there you go that's it oh okay so again just gonna say it one more time half a cup of quinoa 3/4 cup of water in your container of choice you're gonna put one cup of water at the bottom of your inner pot that's going to create the steam and pressure that you need to cook you're gonna set the manual button to high pressure automatically you're gonna set the cooking time to one minute and then as soon as the cooking time is finished beep beep beep you know what it does that when it's finished you're gonna cancel the keep warm mode and then you're gonna wait 10 minutes exactly do not go over 10 minutes you're gonna wait 10 minutes and then you're gonna release that pressure let the leftover steam leave the the I pot remove the lid and you're ready to eat now if you have a new iPod I've heard I don't I have I have you know last generations iPods I've heard in the new this new generation of iPods that have come out on insta pots that you can cancel that keep warm function before you start pressure cooking ok so and I think that what you do is you would you would hit the cancel keep warm button and then you press the manual button then you set the cooking time so if you have a new iPod that you purchased in July I believe if you definitely after July of 2016 then you would have one of these new you would have an iPod that has that new function there are some other functions that go along with in the next generation and I don't want to cover those here but anyways just little future information there okay anyways that's it that's cooking quinoa in the inner pot I mean in the instant pot and I stay tuned I have a little tex-mex eat quinoa salad so I'll show you what I did with some of my quinoa right after I got it cooked up I made a nice little salad for that so stay tuned that's coming up next all right I hope y'all found this helpful please thumbs up this video and share it with all your insta Pot friends and Facebook groups I'm sure that they'll find this helpful too all right I love y'all talk to you later bye
