Please explain how to catch shrimp at night

Hey everyone! Today we're night shrimping.
Shrimping at a night involves different tactics than during the day cause at night the shrimp
were coming in the water to shallow water to feed. So what we did was went to a friend's dock and basically we started making these little chum balls. Little balls of fish meal, and flour, and all this other stuff and we would just throw them along different parts of the doc. And then when the shrimp came in at night we would cast our nets for them. Steve: Fish meal, flour, and then I have some kind of a; my neighbor gave me some really old, two big buckets full of old stuff that smells like fish meal and I have no clue what it is. I've used it every time we come out and it seems to work really well. Steve: I generally try to make them like a patty. J.J.: Yeah. Steve: the current doesn't run strong enough in here but if you were in the regular river. J.J: It was roll them off? Steve: It would roll. J.J.: Okay and this would keep them from rolling. Steve: Yeah keep it from rolling and make them a little more flat than round. Steve: That should have some bait in it. If they're there. Jeremy: We also caught some baitfish and we hooked them onto a line and threw it out there in case a nice fish came up to the chum as well. Just a little something extra. It's always good to, if you can leave something out there fishing while you're doing some other fishing, you know, just better chances of catching something. Once night time came around we started casting our nets for the shrimp and we got a nice little bonus, and that was mullet. Now you can eat mullet but what I like them for is, I like to use them as bait. So what I did I brined them, then I took them home and I made a split tail mullet out of them. And the cool thing about this is its great for catching big fish like Mahi, and Wahoo, and marlin and stuff like that so in a few months you going to see these bait fish again. One thing was cool too is that I learned a new way to throw a net. One of the guys had this other way that I had never seen before. So check it out and see what you think. First thing you want to do it make sure that your net is untangled. Then your going to pull up on the net so that you have a good short section that you can throw easily. From there you're going to grab about a third of the net and your going to take this third and throw it over your left shoulder. Grab part of the weights hanging down and put this part in your mouth. Then grab another piece hanging down and hold that with your pinkey. Now with that right hand, grab another third of the net. You're going to hold this in your right hand. Then you're going to take that remaining third and you're going to put that in your left hand. As you can see now your net is separated into thirds. A third over your shoulder, one in your left hand, and one in your right hand. Then you'll just throw it out there. Here is another view of how he loads up his net. When shrimping at night we're on a dock and we timed it about high tide because low tide, you know, the shrimp won't come as far up and since we're in shallow water, I think it was only five ft. deep we didn't need to tape our nets. So keep that in mind if you're shrimping at night off docks in shallow water. You might not need a taped net but in deeper water its definitely something to have. Rob: It may have been the weather. Steve: I don't know, the way that storm came up... Rob: The way it came in and left. Steve: And, I don't know, I think maybe the weather might have had something to do with it. But then again that's why its called fishing. Rob: And shrimping. Steve: And shrimping and not catching. Rob: Yeah. Steve: You never know unless you go. That's all you can do right? Rob: You got to try. While you can you know. Cause in a few months its going to be even to cold to go shrimping. J.J.: Well the fish were a little bit slow today. Like the shrimp. J.J.: So uh, reload, remount, and do it again. Rob: One thing I can say is we at least got a meal. J.J.: Yeah, that's it. Rob: More than just fried rice and shrimp. J.J.: That's it. J.J.: There was probably about five lbs of head in there or more? Rob: Yeah there's probably six pounds I would say. Six at least. With heads. Yeah that I threw back. That's about a third. J.J.: So about 17 lbs. Rob: Yeah about 18 lbs. 20 lbs. J.J.: That's not bad. Rob: Yeah its not bad. I mean, its bad when yeah to the point where a day like that isn't good. J.J.: Yeah! There is a lot of days we would have loved to have that many. Rob: Yeah I know it! Jeremy: Hey guys, thanks for watching our night shrimping video.
