this is my husband in my bedroom on our third floor it's not a huge room we had a tiny closet but the big problem was we had this awful bubble skylight that was leaking so badly that plaster was starting to fall from the ceiling so it was time for a makeover originally we had access to our deck we decided to close off those doors and open it up into the hallway which makes a lot more sense and it also meant that the main light source would be the skylight so I went to Velux to check out what they offered tell me a little about your roof well I have some pictures I can show you maybe that'll give a better sense excellent I've definitely had a bit of a wishlist going and it was really important that it could be opened and I also wanted blind this is a product that we design for replacement applications that allow us to remove the old skylight put this one down and it literally screws in from the outside so it's not going to require a massive amount of interior finishing with the solar-powered venting skylight system you won't have any need to hire an electrician to do this if you go out for the day and it starts raining outside this little rain sensor right here will pick up the rain it's a little bit noisier yeah but now it's closing much quicker it's it's times faster than it was when it was opening I really wanted something that I knew was going to be weather protected what we've done is we've created three layers of protection to give you a no leak skylight solution it actually comes with a 10-year hale warranty and I've got this exciting little way to show you how safe this glass is if you want to take this ball bearing and just throw it at the glass you sure you want me to throw this at the glass absolutely oh you can do better than that oh good so no risk when we talk about hail I honestly didn't know what I needed when we started this process and they were really really helpful they answered all my questions and really put my mind at ease because the old skylight had been so badly done it was important to fix part of the roof so we did end up changing the slope of the roof but that just meant that the skylight fit him perfectly the Velux installers from snow's construction were great they were in and out in no time once the skylight was installed and all the construction was done it was time to tackle the decorating the first thing we tackled is the closet because we have this big open space so we installed a modular closet system and then we needed a curtain so I went to tonic living they did these beautiful linen drapes I like the drama of having them floor-to-ceiling - and going the width of the wall it's like you don't know what's back there is it a theater is it closes it another window I don't know and then we also wanted to do something under the skylight because it was so beautiful we felt like it needed something to really showcase it so it's a combination of a dresser and a daybed with storage underneath which is great because you always need more storage let's face it I've said it before but we like color in this household my husband is an artist so he doesn't have color phobia and when I told him I wanted to basically paint the room pink didn't blink an eye so I feel very fortunate that way so I'm not really into gadgets but this remote control is pretty cool if I want to close the blinds I can just press the button and it lowers which is really handy here we go sorry now it's dark let me turn on the lights for you so the other thing that I just tried this morning is you can program it to open at a certain time so I set it for seven this morning and at seven I was like it's time to get up I have to save my favorite place to sit now is on the day bed with the kids and a book under the skylight I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out
