and the number of you have asked how to go about making the clamping device and so today we're finally going to go through that process of how to make the clamping device so the YouTube can clamp together your own picture frames it's pretty simple project and not going to take us too long to put together the first thing I want you to look for is the materials list because you're going to need to work from that materials list the first thing we need to make is the arms and there will be four of them and the arms I'm using just three-quarter inch material and basically it's just scrap that you'll probably have around your tool shed now I'm using 3/4 inch material I'm going to cut mine 20 inches long and material I'm using is about one and a half inches wide you can make it wider you can make them longer but that's the dimensions I'm working with okay I've already cut my material to length now I'm just going to cut it to one and a half inches wide I'm also going to cut the single block which is another one and a half inch square by six inch long so let's go ahead and cut that while we're on the table saw I'm going to cut the two square components that are also one and a half inches wide or one and a half inches square and they are six inches long and these are the pieces that are made out of oak in terms of wooden components the last components we need are the little square blocks so I'm just going to cut those now okay these are the three inch blocks cut the squares now we have our four arms and what we're going to do now is we're going to measure from the very bottom we're going to measure up the first one is going to be one inch and then we're going to measure up every two inches from there then we're going to draw a line across all of these because we're going to be drilling holes all up and down all of these arms so that they'll be adjustable so we'll mark each one and we'll keep going until they're all marked okay there's all of our marks for all of our holes and it's important that each hole is in the center of each board now when you drill the holes I have my nuts and bolts here I'm going to make sure that the drill bit that I use that these nuts and bolts are going to be able to slide in and out of those holes without too much friction one final thing I've marked to be at the bottom of every one of my arms so that I know quickly which side is up and which side is down I'm just going to go ahead now and drill those holes there's all our holes drilled in our arms and our nuts and bolts slide in and out quite nicely next we're going to cut the one and a half by one-and-a-half by six inch long connecting blocks now this is these are the connection blocks and you're going to have two of these what we need you to do is to cut out 3/4 inch this way and two inches long we need you to cut that block out I'm going to do mine on the bandsaw if you don't have a bandsaw I recommend that you cut it up by hand because these small pieces can be dangerous on any other tools so 2 inches by 3/4 okay we're getting pretty close now now I just cut the pieces out here that were shaded before and now the next thing I've actually gone ahead and you can see I'm working in felt pen so that you can see this I need to drill holes in the Centers of all of these blocks and they also need to drill holes in the center's through this way so I've gone ahead and mark those and I'm just going to go into the drill press and cut these holes now if you don't have a drill press you'll have to do it by hand remember to make the holes so that the bolts are going to slide nicely through that and in this case these are going to take your ready rod so you're going to need to measure your ready rod to make sure that it goes through there hey and there I've drilled all of my holes everything's ready to go so now I have now the last component before we do the assembly is the for sin square holding box for the edges of the frame now this is your 3 by 3 blocks what I want you to do is cut this area out here and wants to be one and a half by one and a half but first of all you'll need to drill a hole in here and the reason we drill a hole up here is so that when the frame goes in it doesn't inadvertently bump at the very top here there needs to be a little bit of extra leeway so the first thing we do is drill this hole and you can use the same drill bit the using for the other components the second thing you want to do is while you're at the drill or well you're the drill press or using your hand drill drill the through hole for your bolt so first of all we're going to drill these two holes oK we've gone ahead and drilled both our holes here this hole here wants to be in a diagonal line and wants to be three inches from this point so this is the relief hole here this hole is going to contain one of your bolts when we do the assembly in a few minutes the next thing I'm going to do now is go back to the bandsaw and I'm going to cut off this area here I'm going to cut out this one and a half inch square area and we'll be ready for assembly okay we brought all the components so let's go ahead now and start putting our components together so first thing we do is all of these will need to go in an arm all the corner blocks so I'm going to use just for now I'm going to use the fourth hole and then put all of these together using the fourth hole of each of each arm so we'll go ahead and do that okay the next thing I'm going to do is put my ready rod through the connection components and for this I like to have a washer on each end and because this is the adjusting part of this clamp I like to have wing nuts and I like to have them on each side because it makes it more adjustable now the next thing I need to do is to connect the arms to each one of those components like that and I'll be putting a bolt through each one of those okay and that's it our frame is all ready to go we've put the nuts and bolts in all of the components now you'll only need to adjust your arms here depending on the size of frame that you put in and then you're ready bar is going that's what's going to be the clamping component is this ready bar in the middle and using your wingnuts so that's it the clamping device is made
