hello everyone my name is Bethany and in this video I'm going to show you how to make a chunky V stitch cowl this this pattern takes a chunk II like size 6 yarn and a P hook and you're gonna need um a a main color and then two contrasting colors and to begin you're actually going to begin with when you're contrasting colors you're going to begin by chaining 44 okay so there's kind of a long chain so we'll make sure that it's not twisted and you're going to slip stitch into the very first chain making a big circle so you've made a big circle like that and then you're going to chain two and you're going to double crochet down into this chain and then you're going to chain one and you're going to skip that next chain and work in the next chain and I like to work in the back loop of the chain that's just my preference you know you can work in both loops of the chain of course so we're gonna repeat that all around the chain you're going to chain one skip one stitch double crochet into the next stitch so it's making this pattern you you okay so you're gonna finish with one chain left you're gonna skip it chain one and then join with the first double crochet the chain two doesn't count you're gonna join it with the first double crochet this is the start of the cow no this cowl is really kind of tight around the neck I like my cows that way I think that they're warmer and cozier but if you prefer to have it a little bigger around your neck you can make your chain longer just make sure that it's a it's an even number so 44 or 46 or 48 and however many you want to go that way okay so on this cow I'm gonna be alternating colors each row so I'm going I started with my contrast and then next I'm going to grab my main color I'm going to join my main color at this point and you can keep all of your all of your ends you can keep all of them attached because you can just basically bring up the yarn and then that will give you fewer tails in the end okay so when you join your main color it looks a lot neater if you join it um if you actually work that last slip stitch to join the round with a new color so put it on your hook pull it through I have to kind of tighten everything down when you do that wants to go loose and that kind of makes the color change look a little cleaner so you're gonna chain three because this is actually gonna count as the first V stitch the chain two is gonna count as the first DC the chain is gonna count as a chain on that so that's the first first V stitch so you're gonna skip two chains two stitches one two and then work a V stitch here which is a double crochet and then a chain one and then a double crochet in the same place so you can see it looks kinda like a V so you're gonna skip two and then work another V stitch in the next one like that so you can see they kind of look like these let's get to work of these stitch in the next so repeat working your V stitches all the way till you get to the beginning you guess we've reached the beginning you're gonna have that space there you're gonna join you're gonna go through this actually go through that slip stitch to join because you're gonna you want to pull that over to make it look like a V stitch and then you're gonna start right there so grab your third color and again maybe should have done that to begin with but you want to join with a slip stitch and grab that grab your next color and use that to pull through and then it looks a little bit nicer kind of wants to go loose okay so chain three that counts as the first double crochet and the first chain double crochet down into that same space you joined in the three chain space from the previous round and then that's your first to be stitch and then from here on out you're gonna be working in that chain space from the previous round so no chain in between just or no chain in between the V stitches just work directly over there so double crochet chain one double crochet into the same chain one stitch so the stitches are right on top of each other it's like that see you work good double crochet chain one double crochet in the same space and then repeat that all the way around you so there's the last v-stitch and again you're gonna cheat you're gonna join right there in that space so the this first one can look like a v-stitch but you're actually going to bring up your main color so you're gonna be using your main color every other one and then alternating your secondary colors so it's actually just right here so I'm gonna stick my hook in there bring it through with a slip stitch and then again I'm gonna do another round of these stitches so the rest of the cowl until you get to the last row you're gonna be working B stitches in these spaces and you're gonna alternate your main color and then and then do you're gonna do main color pink main color blue main color pink so work work a total of nine rows so we have three you're gonna work six more rows of this V stitch in each stitch around and I'm gonna work the rest of this off-camera and I'll meet you back here in a minute okay so we have finished the cowl you can I mean not finished it but we've worked the nine rows you can see here that I have one two three four five six seven eight nine rows and now we're gonna work the very last row around the top so for this last row I kind of mixed it up and I grabbed the my second contrasting color but you can keep the pattern going and use that main color to finish it up so just whichever yarn you decide to use change to that color using that same a little bit neater method of pulling it through for the last slip stitch and then for this round you're going to kind of repeat the first round so you're going to chain two double crochet down into that space the chain three space and then you're gonna chain one skip one stitch and double crochet into the next stitch so you're gonna chain one skip one double crochet into the next so I'm going to do that all the way around until you come back to the beginning you so once you come around to the beginning you can join at that first be sure to chain once you have the the same space and then join at the beginning double crochet and then you can finish by clipping your ends and and and weaving them in or you can tie knots even alright thanks for watching don't forget to subscribe you
