hello and welcome to inial pools how-to guides section in this guide we will be showing you how to replace a standard pool pump with an energy-efficient version these two styles are virtually the same the key difference being the amps the respective motors are drawing during Operation the energy-efficient pool pumps wiring and plumbing are connected the same as a standard pool pump with no real variation first and foremost you want to disconnect all power to the pump preventing accidental trips to begin removing the pump you will use a PVC pipe cutter to disengage the plumbing line make the cut clean against the port's to make installation of the new pump easier remember it is easier to cut pipe than add on extensions after cutting the power we will remove electric wiring from the cap end of the motor to access these wires remove the plastic cover take the conduit elbow from the old pump and install onto the new at this point we will begin wiring the new motor check out the link below for how to wire a pool pump motor video for more in-depth instructions you begin installing the new pump by first sizing the plumbing lines to align with the pumps port if you're replacing a pump with an exact match this will be simple if it's a different manufacturer model some adjusting of the plumbing line height will be necessary now we begin plumbing in of the new pump our first step will be to add unions to the fort's use three turns of teflon tape on the Union threads to ensure a lot tight grip when selling the unions into the port first hand tighten the unions to make sure it's sitting correctly then finish the job with a wrench of your choosing apply a PVC two-part pipe glue to the end of the plumbing line and inside of the Union this blue strip should be one to two inches thick insert the plumbing line into the Union when installation is complete wait at least two hours before starting the pump to allow the plumbing glue to cure when starting your pump up for the first time use the air release valve on your filter to rid your system of any air that may have gotten into the system while you were installing
