so we're just gonna look at a couple of little simple recipes for getting you started painting waves and whitewash so I've got some fellow blue caddy yellow light and white I'm just kind of putting a indistinct line through the middle here and I've got that same color on a different brush I'm just kind of creating the impression of the light filtering through the surface of the water creating the impression of the heating the sand and to make that water shallower all I'm doing is adding a little bit more CAD yellow light that's some white and this is part of a process of building layers on top of one another so I've got some burnt umber here and it's kind of a dry brush and I'm just softly putting that line through there I don't want it too strong so I've just mixed up some French ultramarine Balogh blue and white and I'm suggesting the sky being reflected on the surface of the water out here behind that wave so if you want to flatten water reflect the sky now I want that part to be a little bit steeper this I'm just kind of run that up like that and we should be starting to see the surface of the water well I've got that color there start running that color down the face of that wave a little bit like that just to flatten out that part of the wave so whitewash has volume and color in depth in it so this is my recipe for a whitewash and that is burnt umber well actually phthalo blue with some burnt umber in some white and that's pretty much it so I'm putting my next a highlight color in I've got my shadow color in and I've added some white and some French ultramarine blue to this darker shadow color and that should hopefully give me a bit of volume and the next part of this recipe is quite simple it's just pure white and I just come back and strategically pushing pure white here and there kind of pull all those colors together should get that lovely dancing effect of whitewash well I've got that brush out and it's quite dry with that white on it I'm just going to put some reflections on the surface of the water there got some white and smaller brush and chest kinda create that illusion of that feathery beat as the wife starts to fall over itself while I've got this one out I'll just pump out some of those reflections so that was a very basic recipe for waves and whitewash it'll get you out of trouble it's not the whole picture of course but it'll get you started
