Please explain how to operate a skid loader/skid steer (bobcat 773)

have any of you ever looked at one of these uh skid steer loader and wondered how to operate one of them um what we have here is a bobcat 773 skid steer skid loader whatever you want to call it they're called several different things um today i'm going to be hauling out manure and i'm just going to run a quick on how to give you a quick run through on how to operate one of these things then who knows maybe some of you haven't used one of these yet and you might use them in the future um right now i'm hauling out with our 4020 and just our mineral spreader but anyway let's get started here i got the bucket attached onto it because i'm going to be picking up you guessed it manure so let's just hop right on in these are a huge pain to get in if you have bad legs or you have a bad back because it requires those to get in here all right so um this is an older model well not an old oiled older model but it's not the newest so up here we have the key and when we switched on it'll do that it is a pain ringing stinging sound um anyway what's gonna happen is if it's up in the winter or if you're turning on in the winter or it's cold what's going to happen is it'll start counting down up here and what those are are the glow plugs the glow plugs do is that they warm the engine up and they get ready to be started and it helps diesel engines start easier so um what i'm going to do is i'm going to start her up then before we can do anything this is true with all almost all it's good cash put the spar down basically it's to keep you locked in and i should be putting on my seat belt safety first um but for the sake of this video i'm not going to be doing that but anyway um before we can start doing anything you got to hit press to operate loader which is the green button right there then you'll see all those lights come on if all those lights come on that means that this bar is not in a good position and if for some reason something's going wrong and you can't move the skids here but you need to what you can do is even without putting down the seat bar you can hit this yellow button here it's a traction lock overline override what that'll do is it'll free up the tires so that you can move it uh it's very handy if something goes wrong let's say um all right so anyway this isn't bobcats are a little bit different than other other skid loaders because they use like what i call them foot feet uh what they do is there's these two levers down on the floor now you can push them down back to each side now your left foot will control the entire arms for going up and down you see now that just controls the arms now that's pushing down with my toes heels toes all right then on my right foot we got to tilt the bucket forward and forward and backward now what i'm going to push down is my toes and then i'll drop it down and then push down with my heel and then it brings the bucket up so that's pretty basic now i've never driven like a new holland or a uh john deere or anything like that but what i do know is that all of their controls are up in the handles now some people like that but i don't really like it because it's very dangerous i think to have your controls all up here because what's happened several times and it's happened locally in our area is that when you go to get out maybe something like doesn't disengage and your pant leg let's say oh one of these catches on this and then um it pushes it forward or something like that and you don't expect it the bobcat or not the bobcat but um the skid steer could either do something erratic or could start moving or something i remember one case where a guy was getting out and he caught the handle and it he had the water raised up which you are never supposed to do by the way you were never supposed to get out with the loader up um what he did was he had it raised up and he was getting out and something caught one of the handles and as he was getting out i think he couldn't move or something like that the loader started dropping down and that crushed them to death so you have to be very careful with these things they're not to be played around with and they're not toys so um yeah anyway sorry for that little rampant safety first um anyway uh this skid steer has a heater it's got 12 volt this is windshield wipers which we don't have a door on it right now because it's summer and it gets very hot in here if you have a door on it but you have cold and hot this we don't have a air conditioner on it but a lot of models do and this is just for your fans your fans are just these four holes right there and there on each side so that's basically everything about the basics of the skid steers one thing that these things do have that we don't use is the hydraulics now there you go now we have different buttons on each handle don't ask me specifically what they do you have three buttons back here and you have one up front it's kind of like a trigger reminds me of an aircraft kind of then you have the same thing over here one two three and then this trigger now if i were to want to turn those on what i'd have to do is i'd have to come up here and i'd have to hit either maximum flow or variable flow and i don't know if you'll be able to yeah see that i pushed down on the trigger on the handle and it started to start the hydraulics but anyway we have lights that just turns on the front lights that turns on the back lights too and then we have bucket positioning what bucketing bucket positioning does is that when you raise the loader up and down the bucket will have a tendency to lean back so let's say you have a bucket full of wet manure and it's really sloppy or something like that and you lift it up the bucket will start leaning back and it's real if it's really full then what's going to happen is that all that slop is going to come right back down on either you or the bobcat and that's never fun so that's always a nice thing to have on because what it does is it keeps the bucket um at the same level as you raise it up and down um high flow i believe that is to make the um hydraulics like high rate of speed um it's got this little label up here attachment auxiliary hydraulics now what we have over here is axillary pressure release on the older models or our other 763 they're well yeah i guess basically what it does it just it releases all the pressure inside the hydraulic lines so that it doesn't cause any undue harm from maybe sitting there over time um another thing one last thing i'm going to show you before i start loading up is well two things here's the speed handle that controls the engine how fast it goes and how much power it puts to the loader and the wheels and what we have down here there's a little hidden red knob now as you can probably tell by the little graphics on it what you have to do so basically what you're going to do is i'm going to show you what it does all right i'm going to lift out on it and then actually you got to turn and lift the lift out my bad it'll start dropping the water down i'll do that again because it was blurry but yeah you get my drift um that's basically everything for this model bobcat here's the little attachments for the door the door power for the windshield wiper the line for the windshield washer fluid and this is the tank for the windshield washer fluid that's basically it if you ever have to get out of one of these things what we have back here is pull the push to exit basically what this thing does is you yank on this and it basically pulls out the gasket around the window and it'll basically just make it loose in there and you can just push the window right out so if you get down somewhere you shouldn't be you can quick get out that way um we got all of our warnings here we got a light so yeah basically that's about it um the only thing that i'm really forgetting is this is the parking brake it doesn't look like much but when it's forward you can't move the handles back and forth on the bobcat and this has a little bit of play so you can't trust it to be spot on again this is just for bobcat skid skid loaders so what you learn here may not apply to every skid loader you may see but it's the basics some people tell me that they don't like bobcats because they're kind of unstable um i can't disagree with them on that it feel it does feel like they are a little bit unstable but we've never tipped one or anything like that um even though let's say you have a load on the front and you tilt it back now that'd be a very smart dude lift move to lift it all the way up but let's say it starts tilting backward if the load manages to stay on the loader somehow what's going to happen is the bobcat will tip back and there's a safety on the back of the bobcat and it'll just hit the ground and it'll keep it keep you from rolling backward it's not really just a safety it's just basically the back of bobcat will keep you from falling backward and this skid steer is a little bit heavier than our other one so it has more of a tendency to fall backward but again that enables you to carry more on the front i'm not sure how unstable new hollands or john deere's are i'm sure there's other brands i'm not mentioning but those are the big ones um one of my friends said that he doesn't like bobcats because they feel unstable to him but i've never driven any other ones so i can't tell you much about that so anyway i'm just gonna do a quick quick load what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna speed the engine up i'm going to tilt the bucket down like so it may lift off the front tires the front tires may come off the ground just a little bit which is okay then you can speed the engine up and just basically push forward with the throttles and i'll try to do this to the best of my ability all right all right so whoa all right so that was highly impressive now um that wasn't a full load but again i'm recording a video so it's kind of hard to fill it up all the way i hope you found this somewhat i hope you learned something from this maybe took a lesson from it you got to be extremely careful around these things one last thing is attachments now some bobcats have a quick release so you can hook up and disconnect attachments at will um it's just something up in the handle here that little two little cylinders up here move these handles up and down but if you just move those handles counterclockwise or that handle counterclockwise and you move this one clockwise it'll release the pin down here on the bottom of the bucket and you can just tilt it right off and you can switch attachments and just lock the other one down and you're ready to go so um anyway yeah i hope you enjoyed this thanks for watching and keep watching my other videos i'll see you later
