Please explain how to make a cardboard box boat - fun for kids - grandson loves blippi boats

you like your boat yeah you make it look nice hi I just got this big box the other day from UPS it was full of bubble wrap and it's such a big box I didn't want to just cut it up and throw it away I wanted to make something out of it for my grandson to play in and I'm gonna make a boat out of it and the reason I'm going to try to make it look like a boat and I stressed the word try is that my grandson really likes boats it started because he likes a person called blippi that he saw on YouTube and blippi is a kid's entertainer he's pretty crazy but he had a video about being on boats and then my grandson Cohen got to ride on a couple of boats and so boats are just his thing so I've got my measuring tape and a straightedge metal yardstick utility knife exacto knife markers and to hold it all together I've got some tape some duct tape and I'm actually going to use some pipe cleaners to thread through the holes in the box that I make and hold that together cut these off tape them down so there's no sharp edges and use those I've used that in the past and it seems to hold together pretty good and I also had to get some extra cardboard and I do that by kind of dumpster diving scavenging and other places and I had to get some other pieces something to make kind of a nose on it and something for the top to make kind of a tower or a wheel house for the boat so I'm not above dumpster diving for my grandson I'm gonna flip it on one side this is where I opened it so I'm gonna make that the nose of the ship the back of it I think I'm just gonna leave flat so save myself some trouble and I've got this extra piece of cardboard I'm going to use it for the front of the ship I'm gonna cut it to the right height which is 24 inches and I'm gonna bend it in the middle for the point of the ship and attach it my cardboard box ended up with this so I've got the point of my ship and I'm going to leave these flaps on the original box so that when I get this cut right I'm going to attach it there gives a good foundation to fasten onto these flaps I'm going to leave on a little bit but I'm gonna trim them to the right angle to kind of support the shape of the nose and I'm gonna show you I'm going to use the pipe cleaners to attach the pieces of cardboard together and I'm going to use this little Phillips head screwdriver to make my holes with you can use a nail or ice pick or a punch or something anything that will go easily through a couple of layers of cardboard then I'm going to punch a couple of holes near the top all the way through both pieces two holes there I've got the holes punched I'm gonna line those up and thread the pipe cleaners through them through tight and then twist them as tight as I can and then curl them up tightly and bend down the sharp ends and then I'm going to put a tape over it because this is an area where my grandson might be able to get to once he's inside the ship don't want even get hurt I put in several more pipe cleaners at different places to make it stronger on both sides and this is kind of how the nose is shaping up and we've got to cover the easel with the tape and put another piece of cardboard there to fit that shape and then fasten it down with the pipe cleaners and the tape and I'm gonna turn the nose over on top of this other piece of cardboard and trace around it to get the right angle for my piece to fit on top of the nose and then cut that out and I drew my line for the actual shape of the cutout to put on top of the nose but I left a little excess cardboard there so I can bend that down and fold it inside of the nose so I can fasten pipe cleaners through that to secure it so this ended up being the nose of my ship I took that top piece and bent the edges down fit along the edge there I cut a big door for him on this side and I'm gonna make a little handle to put on it so he can open it from the inside or outside just gonna make the handle out of pipe cleaners again kids kind of like that open and closed doors be able to get in there and hide if they want to so hopefully he'll think that's fun then I've got this box I'm gonna put on top right in the middle I'm gonna leave this box full height like it is but I'm gonna cut these flaps off and leave maybe two inches on each one so I can fasten pipe cleaners through that to the top of the box I cut a hole in the top of my box that's just a little smaller than the box and I'm gonna put on top of it but before I secure the box on top I'm gonna cut windows in the sides of it and there's the finished top if the windows cut out and now I'm going to poke some holes through these flaps on each end and put pipe cleaners through and secure it to the top of the boat I'm going to turn it around now and cut portholes in the other side and I'm just going to draw around the plate to make the portholes and there it is the finished boat now I'll give you a tour of the boat sort of a grandson's iView of it a toddler's eye view so here's where you go in a handle there you can use it from either side and I've got tape around it there where the ends of the pipe cleaner come together so he doesn't get stuck and he goes in you can see the two portholes and there's room to go up to the front of the boat there and sit there's plenty of headroom for him there's a room here at the back and then you can look up and out of the windows or you can actually stand up and look out one of the windows so it's kind of boat like it's got roughly a boat shape it's kind of big and clunky but I think he'll like playing with it it's tall enough that he can sit in it and not bump his head he can stand up and look out through the windows you can look out through the portholes so I think he's gonna have fun with it our grandsons coming over today and he'll see this for the first time so I'm anxious to see how he reacts see what he thinks of it if it's like a no big deal or if he just wants to move in and live in it so we'll see find out soon what's this what is that walk around it look the other side like Blimpie's poo grandpa made you that cool you can get inside you can climb look you can open the door do you want to color it with some markers you like your boat you make it look nice that uh I think he likes it so we'll have to decide what to make next but thanks for watching have a great day please like share comment and subscribe if you would and remember if you get a hold of a big cardboard box don't throw it away use it to play bye
