Please explain how to use fusible applique to make cards - quilting tips & techniques 131

hello today I thought we just do a little fun project not so much making a quilt today but we're using a sewing machine and we're going to make a just a little pad quarters often like to give cards to people and I thought I'd just show you how you could use fusible web shapes and paper or card and still so with your sewing machine so great fun things to do and so I've got some little hearts here today that I'm going to show you how I put them on a card I just started initially just with a piece of card that I fold it in half you might have some blank cards and and some fun envelopes again you may have envelopes I don't have to be anything in particular to make them a little bit interesting and so I've got some shapes here I've just got some little hearts now it's just with the fusible web on the bank i'm going to peel the paper off and iron them onto my card very shortly and of course you wouldn't have to serve them because not going to go anywhere but i'm going to so because i come and like the little bit of decoration on there so what I've done is I've got my card I folded it in half I've got a pencil and a ruler and I've done a very faint because i'm using hearts which cannot have a center so that we can get them in a straight line I've done a very faint line with a pencil just down the middle so i can actually arrays that afterwards if i want to but it's just enough so that i can see you probably won't see that but i can see where I'm putting it now of course you don't have to do hearts you might have a preference for maybe your giraffe or some other shape cats dogs all sorts of things that you can do and that you can cut out with your fusible web on the back and I've actually cut mine out on the die cutter which is very fortunate for me if I didn't have a die cutter I would cut them out with a pair of scissors and so I'm going to gonna peel the paper off the back now so that I've got that fusible web on the back of them because we tend to use the fusible web mostly on fabric but in actual fact it's great on paper it fuses to pretty much anything you've probably nine that refuses to iron if you put things up the wrong way which isn't helpful at all so let's use it to something that's more helpful I guess I'll position those pretty much where I want them I'm not going to panic too much if it's not absolutely exact now with your iron you could use an applique match if you want to tour a piece of paper in between but i'm just goin two iron straight on that and make sure it's it on the dry setting you don't want the paper to get wet from an esteem from an iron okay so just a quick press it doesn't take too long to get them on there you don't want to change the shape of your card so you don't want to overheat it so they're already fused on there now there you could probably just leave them like that but I'm going to just strayed that you can stitch over those now in my sewing machine here I've actually popped a metallic gold thread which I'm going to so just some straight lines over those hats with it could be any decorative thread or or non decorative threads relief one of those personal choice things so I'm all set to go and I'm just going to start maybe half an inch or so above the house and I'm going to sew straight a straight line straight down the middle and stop below the bottom heart it's probably going to sound a bit clunky I'm going into the card this is a great little project when you need a card in a hurry or you just want to make a color really what is something a little bit different so I'm actually sewing these lines approximately quarter of an inch apart and I'm not panicking too much whether they will start and stop in the same place I'm just leaving my ends hanging at the moment i'll show you what to do with the ends shortly so sometimes these metallic threads can be a little bit tricky to sew with if you've got a meta fill needle or a metallic needle that's always a helpful thing we're just a larger I needle the metallic threads want to shred a little bit sometimes pretty well here one more line to go and so now I've done five rows of stitching I'm now going to just pull my ends through to the other side I'm not going to knock them off I'm just going to pull them and then I'm going to shorten them a little bit but not completely and then I'm goin two iron another piece of fabric on the back got some fusible web on it to cover all these ends in this little untidy because I've used this metallic thread you can probably see that it's a little bit messy on a bed and that that's a combination of the thread and sewing on this fairly stiff card that I pot but because I'm covering the back i'm actually not going to worry about that i just want all these threads poured through so that they're not hanging at the front you could probably leave them at the front that's something a little bit more decorative if you wanted to I just thought this was another fun little idea of something you could do ok ok so now I'm just going to trim those a little bit nervous I'm going to leave a little bit of length on them maybe an inch no more probably so that there's something sitting behind there and the same at this end maybe an inch or so just left there and then I'm going to bring the iron over again and I'm just going to gently press those threads up into where with stitch so that they lay down that way rather than sticking out everywhere let's just hope helps them settle down a bit and then I've got a piece of fabric here that's already got some fusible web on the back just a rectangle it can be something that matches or not yes and I'm going to iron that onto the back over the top of all that stitched area including all those thread ends so that everything is covered and because it's a nice glue that's fixing that should all stay without coming unraveled so there again I've Press that and I've just made it I think a very acceptable little card I've got a fun little envelope no sprite envelope to go with that and with all the gel pens and things that are around these days you can write on dark colors you don't always have to work on light colors or put white paper inside and I think that's a great little card to send to a friend for know particularly good reason and all for a good reason so that was just an idea of how to do fusible applique on card
