hi it's sandy from expression fiber arts calm welcome back to my channel I am so excited you're here because today is all about this angled striped infinity knitted scarf pattern I'm going to show you a really easy way to knit an infinity scarf even if you're a beginner you're going to need two skeins of worsted weight yarn I'm using our pearlescent worsted yarn today and get two different colors any colors that you want to use will be fine you'll also need US size 8 knitting needles you can use straights you don't have to have the cable type also grab some scissors and a darning needle for seaming it together the first step is to cast on 42 stitches using the longtail cast on method when working the longtail cast on method you have to leave enough tail so that you can cast on the correct number of stitches to determine the length of tail you're going to need for the stitches you need I generally do about an inch of tail per stitch since we need 42 stitches 30 and about 12 more once you find that point create a slipknot if you're unsure how to do anything that I show you in this video I do have a beginner knitting video that you can go watch and learn even if you know absolutely nothing about knitting if you're wanting to make the exact scarf that I showed you today start with 42 stitches just with the sake of demonstration and so I don't bore you to tears I'll do a smaller number of stitches and show you a smaller skinnier version you can adjust the number of stitches if you want a thicker scarf cast on more stitches if you want any thinner scarf cast on fewer place your slip knot on your needle tighten that up and go ahead and cast on your desired number of stitches I cast on 12 stitches just so I can show you quickly the concept of the pattern Row 1 you're going to knit every stitch across and again I am using circular needles just because that's what I had on hand you do not need circular needles for this project you can use straights we're not working in the round at all we're just going to be working back and forth and when we get to the end of our project we're going to seam it up it's a very easy way to create an infinity scarf if you're just getting started in knitting row two you're going to start by knitting two stitches one two then you're going to increase by knitting one front and back so in that third stitch start by knitting it just like you normally would but don't drop it off the left needle wrap your right needle around to the back and insert it into the back of that same stitch and then knit that and then drop that stitch off your left needle so you've created two out of one then proceeded to knit across your row until you have four stitches remaining and that won't take us very long at all since we're making this little version when you have four stitches left you're going to decrease over these two stitches insert your needle into both stitches and knit two together so to have turned into one stitch then finish by knitting the final two stitches and that completes row two and that is essentially the pattern you're gonna repeat those rows and I'll demonstrate more I told it was simple the increase at the start of the second row and the decrease at the end of the second row is what creates an angle instead of your stripes going horizontally across they actually angle all of your stripes will be at an angle it's a super simple way to make a really cool effect next up we're gonna switch colors to change colors drop the first color pretend it's not there and pick up your second color leave that and hanging off and just begin working with that second color repeat those two rows we're knitting this row every stitch across with the second color turn your work of course repeat Row two knit two stitches knit one front and back on that third stitch knit until you have four stitches remaining decrease by knitting two together and knit the final two stitches next you're going to drop that color and pick color one up again just pull it right up the side this will prevent you from cutting and reattaching yarn you're just gonna pull your strands up the side as you go the only thing to keep in mind is that you don't pull it too tight leave a little bit of give there so that when you get to the end your scarf isn't bunched up on that side and continue to repeat rows one and two alternating colors every two rows until you get the length of scarf that you like by doing that simple technique in row 2 of increasing and decreasing on opposite ends instead of your stripes going horizontally like this they're angling like this you do want to keep that in mind when determining the number of cast on stitches because at first it's gonna seem really wide but then as the angles start happening the scarf is actually thinner than your initial cast on the example shown is about 60 inches long I feel this is a really great length because it allows you to wrap the scarf around your neck twice without it being too tight or too baggy this used almost to complete skeins of our pearlescent worsted weight yarn which is 220 yards per skein so almost 440 yards for the entire scarf the final step is to seam up the end to seam up the ends thread some yarn onto a darning needle if you have not cut your tail on your project you can use the tail I'm just using an extra piece of yarn lay your project out like so with the ends together making sure there's no twists in your scarf and we're gonna start seaming up those edges then we start seaming if you want a safety pin the edges together first to make sure that it's going to be even as you go down you can do that you don't have to and I'm keeping it really simple today and I'm just doing a basic whip stitch so you go over and insert it there are many different ways to seam your projects together I would do an inch or two of whatever technique you want to try and see how you like it if you're not loving it just rip that out Google something else and try a different technique you want to get a look that you really enjoy when you're done weave in all the ends you won't have very many since you are pulling the strands up the side cut your tails when all of that is complete you will have this beautiful angled striped infinity knitted scarf this is very easy to work up while watching TV on a road trip on the plane it's just that two row repeat you can make this for all your friends for gifts or just keep one for yourself thank you so much for watching I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to spend some time
