Please explain how to knit the fisherman's rib stitch and bind off

it's me Charlotte and today I'm going to show you guys how to knit the fisherman's rib stitch this stitch looks very familiar to the one color brioche stitch we did a few weeks back it's very easy its beginner friendly you will learn a new stitch if you are brand new and that is how to knit in the stitch below so I will show you that it's not that complicated so don't be intimidated once you get the hang of it it's really easy it goes really fast this is a one row repeat it does have a set up round which is really easy I'll show you that as well before we get into it though real quick guys I want to say thank you for everyone who has subscribed to my channel thank you for liking and commenting and sharing my videos it means the world to me if you haven't already subscribed please do so now and if you'd like to follow me on Facebook that link will be in the description well alright guys how to knit two fisherman's rib stitch very easy I think you guys are really going to love this this would look really nice I think in a bulky or a chunky yarn to make a whole scarf it would be fine it would go quickly especially if you're using a chunkier yarn so yeah play around with it I think you guys are really going to like it let's get into how to do it okay to start I changed my background color a little bit today actually a lot today and then it so you guys can really see what I'm trying to accomplish here by showing you the row below or the stitch below and I have a knot in my on um I think the darker back that may be able to help you better see what it is I'm talking about so okay to begin you want to cast on an even number of stitches so for this example I think I'm just going to do ten so I have slipknot always counts as one one two four six seven eight nine and ten all right now the setup row like I said it does have a setup row but it's easy it's just knit all the stitches so we can do that right so you're going to knit all the stitches and I think what a lot of beginners are intimidated by by the fisherman's rib is the fact that you do have to knit in the stitch below it can be a little complicated I guess at first but I'm going to try to show you guys the easiest way to really know where to put your needle to do my best and I really hope this background-color helps with me helps me show you guys exactly where you need to go okay the first round was just knit all the stitches now we're going to start with our one rail repeat this is around or the row we are going to do over and over and over again until we're all done excuse me with what we're doing okay first stitch on every row is going to be knit I can do that now it says to knit in the stitch below okay you see this vert or this bar right here right below that if you kind of stretch out your stitch you can see there is a hole can you see that hole close let my camera cooperate with me and maybe you guys can see what I'm talking about but it won't because my camera okay so we have see that hole right there guys it's right underneath this bar and all you want to do is stick your needle right in that hole I'll show you guys again and bring up a stitch okay the next is knit one so it's going to be knit one knit in the stitch below and it one knit one in the stitch below okay we knit one now let's go back in the stitch below kind of open up your work a little bit and you can kind of see that hole here's the bar and there's a hole directly underneath it I really kind of want you guys to see this it's the hole right directly underneath that bar it'll get easier to see once you get this pattern more established I'm going to show you guys after I get this first row done and the one thing that you guys might start with because I kind of still do is the last stitch because the last dish is going to be knit in the row below or knit in the stitch below what I do is I find that bar and I just kind of go right find the bar and I just go right underneath it pull up your stitch okay that was the first row I think that's the hardest one is the first time doing that row excuse me okay now to continue you're gonna do the same thing you're going to knit the first stitch and then knit in the row below and you open up your work you can really see that hole see it that's where you want to stick your needle you pull up a stitch knit the next one as normal open up that stitch and you can see that hole right underneath that bar right underneath this bar there's a hole put your needle in there bring up a stitch again find a hole put your needle in it bring up a stitch again pull your work apart at first if you have to it really does help there's that hole you just want to stick your needle on that hole bring up a stitch knit the next one and the last one is always going to be you know knit in the stitch below so I find that vertical bar and I just kind of go underneath it find the bar go underneath it I'm sure sometimes I've missed it or I've done it incorrectly but I don't think anyone will notice you might see a loop here see that loop that's okay that will go away I don't know if it's supposed to be there but when I was doing it it was there and it didn't hurt anything and didn't really notice again you knit the first stitch of every row and then you start your repeat knit one regular the knit in the stitch below you can see the whole you just want to put your needle right in that hole and you just keep doing that over and over and over again and it's going to take you Oh a good few rows before you start noticing or seeing the pattern so don't think that you're doing it incorrectly it just takes a while for the pattern to start to really pop out and appear and then to bind off I'm going to show you guys how to bind off alright well pretend it we have a nice big piece like so it does like I said guys it does take a while a few rows for it to really start to show what it is you know the pattern so don't stop and think you're doing it wrong just keep with it and you'll eventually see it start to come out okay to bind off this is how I bind off um there is a name for this bind off it's a stretchy bind off and there is a name for it I don't remember the name but it has a technical name but I just call it a stretchy bind off and I'm going to show you guys how to do it I'm going to start a row like normal you're actually going to knit knit the first one like normal and then you're going to knit in the stitch below just like normal actually hold on you want to knit the first one we're binding off knit the first one now we're going to yarn over and then we're going to knit in the stitch below and then all you want to do is take that yarn over take that yarn over bring it over that stitch and then take that first stitch and bring it over okay again you want to yarn over knit that one normal take that yarn over bring it over take that first stitch on your needle bring it over okay now we're going to now it's time to knit in the stitch below so we're going to do that then we're going to take our yarn over bring it over and take that one the last one on our needle and bring it over as well now we're going to yarn over knit that one next the next one the way we're supposed to which is just regular take our yarn over bring it over take that one bring it up I think you guys are getting this yarn over now it's time to knit in the stitch below and do the same thing until you're all done and that's how I bind off the fisherman's rib and another thing I want to say the further along you get in this pattern the bigger it grows the more you can really see in depth where you're supposed to go when you need to knit in the stitch below and another thing is when you're coming along and you're knitting across see these raised braids that's where you're going to go in to the row below so if you ever have to stop what you're doing and you walk away from your work if you're on this section that is where you just knit regular this you're going to go into these braids to knit in the row below I hope that makes sense and I didn't just confuse everybody but I think you guys will do this for a while practice it I think you guys will know exactly what I'm talking about you'll be able to find your own ways on where you are in the pattern and I think you guys are really going to enjoy this like I said I think this would make a really nice like bulky scarf with bulky yarn it would go very fast it would look very nice um so give it a try you might like it um and that's it for today guys so if you haven't already subscribed to my channel please do so now if you like this video please give it a thumbs up and if you want to follow me on Facebook that link will be in the description below until next time guys I hope everyone has a super wonderful fabulous day and happy knitting bye
