and add ballast. Usually a half-pound two one pound per square foot to add weight
is sufficient. The added weight helps to ensure the
artificial grass doesn't look like carpet that needs to be stretched after
a year or two. The amount you need to add ballast
depends upon the expected foot traffic, the type of grass and the type of infill. Infill on putting greens is used to adjust ball speed. The more sand infill the faster the
green will play. It is typically applied using a drop spreader. Some infill
options are: EnviroFill, which is a sub rounded, acrylic coated sand with a
microban coating. This is the most expensive product but
also the best product for most non-sporting applications. Crumb rubber
is a good option for sporting applications. It provides impact attenuation. The
disadvantage is that it tends to get quite hot. Flex sand, a crumb rubber alternative for
sporting application, is an elastomeric coated sand. It is much more expensive
than crumb rubber but it also doesn't have the temperature concerns associated
with crumb rubber. Silica sand, which is the least expensive
option, is suitable for applications that received little to no foot traffic, The disadvantages are that it holds
moisture and tends to compact overtime. On most applications a total infill
of one pound per square foot is sufficient. However on some heavy foot traffic
applications you will want more. Factors that affect the amount of infill are: One,
the expected foot traffic. Two, the pile height of artificial grass. Three, the density of
the artificial grass and, four, the type of infill being used. Brush up your artificial grass. This
second application of brushing is to help ensure the infill is evenly spread
and lets the granules drop down to the bottom of your artificial turf. Finally
