now what I dreamed about having a home of my own I imagined myself out here in the shop chisel in hand the smell of wood wafting through the air but like love guys it's not always my projects I get to work on my wife Lynn has a list of her own and right at the top of it is another kitchen project too bothered by it all right it's not bad it's kind of Tuscan s timeless it's a classic yeah how about this we'll take down this timeless classic and try another timeless classic I'll buy another one it's coming over another friend okay but the new friend got to be as good as my old hockey all right no problem well the first thing I want to do is run down in the basement and trip the circuit breaker on this now I have worked on light fixtures like this just by turning off the switch but I always feel better if I turn the power off at the circuit breaker and so no power here I'm going to start to clear things away now this is a pretty simple job I really got to do is go up here and take off this canopy and then expose the electrical box underneath and then cut the wires oh I don't believe this there's supposed to be an electrical box right up here now that box would be attached normally if it was one there to a ceiling joist or a piece of bracing instead this bracket is just hell the ceiling with these two small plastic anchors and the entire weight of that fixture was being borne by these now I'm going to move the light fixture from here over to here so I want to get the table is a little bit further away from the wall so I've just drawn a circle there to give me kind of a location now we've got our opening cut for a box now a guy come up with a way to attach this securely and I got a special bracket for that now this is the bracket that's going to keep that box secure in the ceiling and I think the best way for me to explain how this works is to use kind of a mock-up here of what the ceiling looks like imagine that this hole right here is the hole that I just cutted the ceiling and we would be looking up at the ceiling this way and if we could see the ceiling from the top while it looks something like this should be a couple of joists and then of course the top of the drywall and the box would fit right in here just like we saw a moment ago in the ceiling now the bracket installs from below you actually reach up through the hole like this then once it's in position I'm going to rotate this bar and as I do that if you notice the very ends of this bracket are expanding outward and there are some very sharp pointed ends there that are now just beginning to dig into the side of the ceiling joist next I want to take this bracket and insert it through the hole right here the box is and it's going to go up and over the bar that we put in earlier we'll slide this up out to there then we'll take the I'll take the box slide it up into the ceiling and over those two bolts now the wiring here is pretty basic we've got a hot wire right here the black one a common or neutral the white one and then our ground wire so I've got them all separated or free of the covering now I'm just going to strip off the insulation get myself oh maybe about an inch what I want to take care of this big hole now this is just a strip of wood here I've drilled a couple of holes in it I'm going to put a little glue on it yes all right now take a piece of wire this is the one that we cut off the wire that was sticking out of ceiling and that through then we'll just push the piece of wood up inside and kind of pull down on it now I want to apply a little pressure here well this cries now for shallow repairs I could use something like spackle but a deep hole like that I'm going to use something else this is called a setting type joint compound it can actually be used for doing a taping work the thing is this sets up very quickly well pretty quickly this version is 45 minutes you can get it to set up as quickly as 15 minutes oh you went for something very I want to get for something traditional traditional sort of classic classic that's what I was thinking I don't like things that are very shiny so it has sort of a softened pewter yeah now I've made a temporary hook out of a piece of coat hanger right there I'm going to hang the shandler up so don't have to hold on to it and first thing I want to do is pass these wires through this threaded nipple like that and I'm going to take the wires go up through our bracket and bring them back down okay now we'll make our wiring connections this is our ground wire right here bring it around the grounding screw right here okay so now the ground wire is attached to the fixture and to the strap in the Box all I have to do now is make a connection between the wires coming out of the ceiling and the ones going the land fold them and put them up inside put the canopy up there put the retaining ring on Wow it's up its up was it one full this I'm not from the switch on it yet I want to know why okay you like it I do I do I love my six really shape got schmutzie though you see how dirty oh yeah oh my name of the package yeah take that back oh but no I think I think looks pretty very classy you ready it's ball four oh yeah yeah do it let's do it two one wow that's pretty hey that's nice yeah we season on dimmer that's that's all the way up right now it's not Dimi how do we know the Timur I guess that means we got to change the dinner oh no but I guess a little better next Friday that's project alright
