hey ladies okay so um i grew up in alabama and basically what i would see is a lot of african influence and i mean i was really into a lot of stuff like african dance i worked at an african-owned bookstore in high school so i saw a broom of course at that time i didn't know it was a broom at that time um actually i was told it was table decoration and i was like okay that was really creative and everybody was really feeling this movement so let me show you so this is the bird okay so basically it it's a room it's an african broom um but in alabama and georgia people actually decorated their their table tops with this so they would sit it up on their tabletops and of course it wouldn't look so neat like this um i mean i'm sorry it wouldn't look so plain like this it would um have beads on it and you know it might have different color tips on it so people were using it like um decoration for their table tops so basically what i learned is this is an african room and i keep saying african broom because um when i was when i was one day i was riding in a taxi and i really needed a room so i really wanted to get you know one of the local ones and i told a taxi driver to stop um so that he could get me one of these rooms so he was like ah you want an african boot and i was like yeah i want an african room i'm in africa so why why not so he was like ah oh so he was really confused why i would want an african broom so i got that the african broom and it was like two cities which is almost 50 cents right now but do you know that these brooms were selling in alabama um probably for 20 and 40 and 60 so basically they were getting it from ghana or nigeria and they were bringing it to america and they were making a thousand percent profit and of course we don't know any better so we're just buying it or we putting it on our table and we're just excited to have africa in our house at 1 000 profit and that's exactly what happened because um i'm sure that the cost of living has gone up but you know that makes it actually worse because that means it was if it's not 50 cents then that means it probably was 30 cents that makes it worse because you may you brought it for 30 cents on you brought it for 30 cents and then you sold it for 20 to 60 dollars because you put beads on it and these don't cost a lot and yeah so they were very pretty but we were so ignorant we didn't know a lot of people didn't know these were grown people and i was a child and nobody knew no nobody understood that and i mean that's how it was sold it became table decoration so enough with my jibber jabber i'm going to show you how to use an african broom so here i go the ends of it you want to make sure they're together and they're lined up and that your string holds this holds it in place so there's definitely a science to it so wow so so my so so you
