so my dear friend Larissa sent me water hyacinths they bloom these beautiful purple flowers and I've had him a couple weeks and they've grown exponentially I put them in just water with some sand in the bottom in this plastic barrel and of course right away I had problems with mosquitoes and there were many many many little baby mosquito larvae in the water and I wasn't sure what to do so I thought I would try an experiment so I took regular old vegetable oil now I don't think it really matters that this is organic but it is and this was just what ahead in the house it's a combination oil but I'm sure you could use corn oil or any kind of oil and I kind of tried to cover the top of the water with a thin layer of this thinking that it may smell the larvae without having any damaging effect on the actual plants and sure enough it did this experiment was completely successful within 24 hours there's all kinds of dead baby mosquitoes underneath this oil and it cost pennies to do this and completely non-toxic now there are no fish in this water because if I had a filtration system on it and fish of course I wouldn't put corn oil on the top of it but if you have standing water or if you have a very light filter I think you may be able to use the oil also I'm not sure about though it might clog the filter so let's just go with right now no filter standing water water plants mosquitoes add some corn oil plants are still happy mosquitoes are dead I'm happy experiment successful please if you liked my quick practical inexpensive advice subscribe and I will continue to make more videos for you that don't showcase my face instead they showcase information thank you see you back soon
