ah Halloween I love Halloween but weird it always seems to happen to me and I'm sure this year will be no different right on cue of course oh I feel them they're all around me it's so warming so comforting maybe I'll just rest here one soak up the damage from all these spirits oh yes that feels better I've been so tired oh I didn't hear you come in I'm all closed up now just cleaning up a few things gonna help you it's just it's just I've got myself into okay I I understand I'm a bartender I know when something's up and something was up all right something was up I mean she floated in here did you see that can I pour you a drink a nightcap maybe something to soothe your soul I drink a nightcap something to soothe my soul where am I honey you're in a bar where did you think you were well I felt the attraction to the spirits but I didn't think liquor booze spirits I thought there was a kind that linger on after you're dead well baby you've come to the right place looking for a lost soul are you maybe your husband no that's exactly the problem I'm a widow well I've got the perfect drink for you just sit back relax and watch the magic happen my name is Bruce and I've been workin far and he´ll for an eternity in that time I've learned a trick or two that I'd like to pass on to you so sit back relax and enjoy this spectacular Halloween edition of bar talk and cocktails we've got a lot of ground to uncover the widow's kiss is a beautifully rich cocktail and the strong libation which is perfect for the cooler months ahead fall turning to winter the drink has a long verbal finish with just a slight hint of Apple it's sweet and complex just like a widow's kiss the drink was first published in George j-cap owners book modern American drinks in 1895 so it's an old drink no one knows for sure but it's believed that George created the widow's kiss while at New York City's Holland House Hotel cocktail well if later appeared in cocktail guides in the early 20th century and then disappeared during Prohibition the widow's kiss let's make one we start with Calvados our apple brandy and I'm using a little measuring device here because I want to be accurate one and a half ounces of Calvados next is yellow chartreuse now you could use green but yellow is a little mellower mellow yellow 3/4 outs but I think that's too much my taste buds say less so I'm only going to use a half an ounce of yellow chartreuse next we have some Benedictine again 3/4 ounce but it's too powerful this stuff just cuts through like anything so I'm only going to use a half an ounce sir two states back teeth 1605 and Benedictine even earlier 1510 originally both liquors were made by monks and chartreuse still is milder and sweeter than the famous green chartreuse yellow chartreuse at 40% alcohol by volume or 80-proof was introduced to the world in 1838 its color is entirely natural with no artificial flavors or preservatives yellow chartreuse is made with the addition of honey and this pale yellow color is derived from saffron only two months at the distillery know the identity of 130 plants used to blend chartreuse and how to distill them into this world-famous pure now the making of Benedictine is a slow process with a subtle alchemy of 27 different plants and spices aged in oak barrels Benedictine has a distinctive aroma of spices and citrus fruit offering notes of crisp freshness and softened by a touch of honey at 40% alcohol volume or 80-proof benedictines amber color has an extremely rich texture on the palate with an unforgettable taste and the final ingredient is Angostura bitters two dashes there you go that's all you want we've got a prepper glass so we've got some ice a little water get her nice and chilled and add some ice to our cocktail and we just want to stir this up nice and gentle get it all nice and chilled a little bit of diluting going on - perfect and all we do get rid of our ice just strain it out oh yeah look at that color wonderful like fall turning to winter and now just a garnish a little cherry on a pick there you go babe thank you but I don't like to junky well I guess it'd better make another thank you hey baby how about a kiss I made you drink well if I kissed you I have to kill you thanks for watching be sure to like and leave a comment make sure you subscribe and you checked out last year's Halloween episode that was spooky woohoo scary
