Please explain how to chop an onion - diced and sliced

hey guys welcome to foods and fixes my name is Taylor and today I'm showing you how to dice and slice an onion now the onion is used in so many recipes that got to know how to just prepare it dicing is very popular for a lot of different pan sauces and such so first thing I do is I slice the onion in half get it ready take off that that paper or that skin a very top layer and then I'm going to have the root facing the knife and I'm going to go ahead and slice horizontally first and you can do as many as you want obviously the more slices that you do the finer the the Mint's will be when you are finished so the first ago rosanna lee and now i'm going to go vertically I'm not going to thin here having some chunky dices if you will and once I've kind of gone through the onion notice I'm keeping my fingers away tucking tucking my fingers back kind of putting my knuckles against the blade I'm going to go ahead and slice through just like this so again fingers tucked away out of way the onion and this is a pretty rough job not too fancy one thing you can do to is as you clean the knife you if you want to make sure that the your fingers kind of pony ways you're not like to close to the to the blade and then you can kind of finish up near the root if you aren't going for aesthetics you just want to diced onion you can go through and do another chop and show you how I do that and I'll just go through the work right there again being careful not to have your fingers too close to fit the blade so that's how you dice an onion and the next thing we're to show you is how to do some slices now this is great for caramelizing an onion you want some bigger slices on the pan so I have the route now facing towards me instead of the knife and then I just go down Danya kind of doing a rocking motion in a way if you notice i kept the core in the onion you don't really want to do that because once the slices come come apart they're going to kind of be stuck to each other if you notice but it also does keep the onion pretty pretty stable so it depends on what you're going for but usually you want to go ahead remove the core of the onion and Percy with the technique that's pretty much it guys click like if you liked the video and please subscribe to see future updates and you can always go to foods and fixes calm for more
